I am so sick of hearing about RITA RITA RITA! What about
KATRINA? What about the victims? What about the crap that FEMA is up to? What about the toxicity? What about the failure of the Federal Government? What about all of these issues and more?

catastrophe.

Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 03:03 PM by Dhalgren
August? Oh, that's old news, man. Besides, all of the errors and mistakes that the governor and mayor made won't be made again. Now that our Great and Fearless Leader (may the Lord Jesus Christ pray to His name) is in charge, things will go smoothly... ACKkk! I almost made it...:puke: :puke:

again because of Rita?:)

6. Yes. My heart goes out to them. I think it's appalling how they are
being treated. Shuffled around like they don't matter. It's sickening.

5. Rita could end up being Katrina's sister in Lousisiana
I reckon you'll be more than sick of her then, if she blows the levees.

Rita is important, esp. to those living in her path. I assume you be an inlander then?

7. Many parts of Texas will NOT be affected by Rita.....
Midland, Odessa, Amarillo, Lubbock, Waco.

And Crawford, of course.

They weren't much affected by Katrina, either. (Except for Crawford.)

8. Hey LittleClarkie, sorry, it's just that I don't think it's time to move
on from Katrina. We have the attention span of a gnat. I am not usually so prickly but I am so disgusted by it all. I am in Houston, yes, an inlander. My folks are in the Clear Lake area and could be threatened by Rita. I am West/Northwest of Houston.

9. Media strategy: focus on the new storm, make bush look really good
They're hoping his newfound "responsibility" will put him ahead in the polls again, with coattails for the 2006 mid-terms. Heck, with someone competent in charge of FEMA, it might even work.

14. We're getting hit with the outer bands - rain and wind gusts all day.
But this is a mere "inconvenience" compared with what you may be in for later this week.

Stay safe!

16. It's not that. I resent that given the enormous tragedy we are
being forced to move on. I am in Houston and Rita is projected to come this way. I apologize for giving you the impression I don't care. I do care. I hope you can understand that I take issue with the fact that Katrina isn't over; the people are still in need of our attention. It is wrong for Americans to have such a short attention span. I know it's not entirely the American people because the media determine what issue gets the focus.

BTW I love the image at the bottom of your post. I hope you will be safe this weekend and your loved ones and your home and your pets too.

18. Sorry but your thread title is a bit harsh and insensitive.
Thanks for your clarification. In my 47 years I have lived through numerous hurricanes and two tornadoes. Most in the Houston/Baytown area. You never forget the smell of mixed raw sewage and petrochemicals. Thank the maker there was only one fatality down my street. My heart grieves for what the folks in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are going through. We moved back home to East Texas and about ten years back, just missed a tornado that flattened many of my neighbors homes. We moved from that house to a place that is surrounded by large tall trees. I love living in the woods but dread the thought of what would happen if we had a tornado. So, I'm a bit on edge with this one.

Thanks to all who are sending out prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibes our way. I'm sending them back at you.

22. As a Katrina survivor, let me tell you...
that you have absolutely no idea what is headed your way. Instead of posting online you need to start securing your home and buying stuff like water and gasoline.

All of us hurricane survivors will make sure things get done ,but you need to seriously prepare because the storm and the aftermath ain't pretty. Worry about us after the storm has passed.

And remember: Avoid the Chicken Cavatelli (sp?) MRE. It was the only naff one in the case (AA?).

27. I had Meat loaf with a mashed potato type substance
Not quite comfortable with the chemical heating aspect of the preparation, but it DID get hot. Mmm. Hot fud.

I agree. Katrina sucked up the bathwater hot Gulf and spit out hell. There's something "funny" about the weather. All bets off on normal expectations.

Get Gas! No gas left me stranded 10 days after the storm. Bicycles! How I wish I'd owned a bicycle. Get a car battery cell phone charger accessory!

Better yet, plan to get out.

Don't know about you, but I'm capable of holding at least two, if not three, separate threads of news in my mind at any one time.

Aside from the fact that some of my closest friends live on the Texas coast, there are also thousands of Katrina evacuees there as well, facing Round 2 of the U.S. versus Mother Nature. So it's not an entirely unrelated event.

13. So I'm not important?
Where's the rule that says only one thing can be focused on at a time? What about the people here in the Hou/Gal area who NEED TO KNOW what is going on so we can get out if we need to? Should the news not be telling us those things?

26. As opposed to so many others in different threads
Who hope Texas gets absolutely hammered by Rita. Then there are the ones who just want us to "secede already." Well, you know what? I'm getting d*mned ready to secede. I'm sick of this admin. in DC and sick of the jerks here who can't distinguish between states and people.

You're right about keeping our attention on Katrina, texpatriot2004. I, for one, haven't forgotten. I hope you and yours ride out Rita, safely. I'm in Central Texas, but I'll be heading out to the store tomorrow anyway, stocking up.

20. All those issues remain unresolved.
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 04:17 PM by NYC
Questions remain unanswered. Accountability has not been assigned. The federal government (Homeland Security's FEMA) failed the people of New Orleans. Someone must be held accountable, and we both know who.

The disaster of New Orleans is far from over, and it should not be neglected by television and newspapers.

Mercenaries in New Orleans. Who is addressing this important issue? Contracts for rebuilding go to Bush cronies? No auditing? Below prevailing wage to be paid to workers?

These are all serious issues, and should not be ignored.

24. Are you really having trouble finding
news on Katrina? Maybe I get more channels here, and maybe my "internets" is better. :)

I can't seem to get away from Katrina news.

But you know why they are covering Rita? Because it's an ongoing disaster with more yet to come.

I guess you could say the same of Katrina, but in my opinion there is plenty out there on both disasters.

How many oil refineries were taken out when Katrina hit New Orleans?

Now, how many refineries are endangered by Rita as it marches towards the Gulf Coast of Texas?

Stay tuned...
