Broussard got some facts wrong...emotional upheaval of Katrina to blame.
(I am posting this because apparently there are some RW bloggers making much of it, and I wanted DUers to have the whole story.)

The president of Jefferson parish, who most will remember for his emotional recounting of the death of a co-worker's mother on Meet the Press two weeks ago, appears to have gotten some of the story wrong. While Broussard's co-workers' mother did die in the flood, it was not on the date in question.

It does not seem surprising that someone living through such a disaster could make an error such as this.

When asked how Broussard could have gotten the details of his mother’s story so wrong, Rodrigue said, Broussard “was emotional, absolutely and he was from the time that he found out that, you know, that my mother had died and I was here doing what I’m required to do for the citizens for Jefferson Parish.”

2. Why would the date be important? The facts are true anyway.

7. I think the issue is whether it was a federal responsibility...an attempt
to shift the blame back on local people. It appears that the man's mother died in that nursing home where the owner's just left all the elderly and disabled people to die.

Nevertheless, if the feds and Bush had heeded all the warnings regarding the levees (and funded the Army Corps of Engineers' plan), the flood would not even have happened, so this particular bit of blame-shifting (all the while whining about the "blame game" - they actually STILL are doing that!) won't work.

6. Well, I questioned it at the time.
Because the water had stopped rising long before Friday, so the only way anyone could have drowned then was if they fell in the water.

But MY take on the story was that she didn't drown on Friday, but died of something else. Dehydration most likely.

Anyway, she's dead, that's undisputed.

8. Yeah, I caught that too. I think Broussard was speaking EMOTIONAL truth at
the time, probably, and getting a lot of facts just all whirled together in the midst of all that trauma.
