From his bio:

At 20, Schulz was drafted into the Army. While in basic training his mother died of cancer. Schulz served as a machine-gun squad leader in Germany, France, and Austria. He later wrote, “The Army taught me all I needed to know about loneliness.”

Funny how the people who have actually served in war do not not usually like war.

Landed @ D day .... on june 6th he would do a strip dedicated to it every
year. He lived his faith through his actions and gave millions to charity.

He died the morning his last comic strip was going out in the Sunday Paper.

And to this day I tear up when Linus tells what xmas means in "The Charley
Brown Christmas."
