2. No. There ARE no war dead (only some very, very few from peace
keeping missions). Contrary to you in the US we are very familiar with the sight of US coffins, though. And this picture is especially well known and very powerful. That's probably why the CDU critizises Schwanitz vehemently over it.

in one district. It is not part of the federal campaign, nor of any of the state-level campaigns.

I like Schwanitz; I met him and he's a good one. But I can not support his choice of campaign imagery.
