2. Yep, I was just thinking
$5K? That'll be gone in no time. And people are supposed to use that for "education so they can get a good job"? And to pay for childcare while they do so? It'll last about four months. And of course, their living expenses, etc, will go on top of that.

Talk about pissing on a fire - people are going to need a hell of a lot more than $5K - but all the money's been spent making people homeless in Iraq ...

3. pitohui and expatriate I feel for you and your family members.
Mom and I are playing the the lotteries 240+ and 80+ million for NOLA. It's not like we think we'll win, but if we did, darn a lot of good could be done.

no one is going to uproot themselves for $5K which won't even begin to put back together our lives

although don't get me wrong, i'll take it, something is better than nothing

a few thousand is better than zero

i just don't think we'll actually get it

6. Sure, go ahead.
Take $5000 and go to a city that has no water, electricity, or commerce.

Let us know how it works out. :eyes:

8. I have been seeing reports, that even people in the Katrina ravaged
areas, who still have jobs can't find housing. They said the oil co's are buying properties sight unseen and 3000 listings went to 300 overnight. Where are people going to even be able to live.

I agree $5000 is better than nothing, but, where are people going to work, get that job training (I know universities and colleges are closed), child care etc. This speech was fluff, without substance.

At least short term, these areas will come back, that I am certain.

9. I think the poster was being sarcastic. And 5 K is WAY, way less than the
amount doled out to victims of previous hurricanes (especially those in Florida).

11. Are you kidding? 5000K doesn't buy shit these days.
In fact, that is what I donated to the Red Cross because my husband got a bonus last month.

When someone has lost everything, $5K is a drop in the bucket. I wish I could do more.
