I keep thinking about something my dad said re: Bush

When Bush first won (or, rather, was placed in office), Dad basically agreed with me that he was a lightweight. But, Dad said something like: "Don't worry, he'll have smart people around him. They won't let him screw up too badly."

WOW, was THAT ever wrong. It turns out the lightweight president is surrounded by a bunch of dimwits. :grr:

I think he is surrounded by many smart people. They just may not be using their "talents" in a way that you and I think is appropriate. "Smart" doesn't mean "good" or "just".

During the majority of his first term, I wondered aloud why * was screwing up so badly while surrounded by what appear to be minor-Machiavellian geniuses, as I too subscribed to the idea your dad mentioned.

However, it was at the beginning of this past year when I began reading rumors about his bad temper. It was solidified by a newspaper article (linked from very our own DU) app. two days ago regarding another of his "outbursts".

My suspicion is that he's surrounded himself with an honor guard of boot-licking, Yes-men who protect him from his cabinet briefings, newspapers, public opinion, world events or anything else that would push him over the edge.

I've known guys like *. I currently know and work with guys like * (and my father was much like *). These fella's are notorious for holding it all inside until one small, insignificant annoyance will set them off not only to the bearer of the news, but to all around him, regardless of station or rank.

What surprises me is that he hasn't been caught more often doing this. It's an interesting excessive to watch one of his (far and few between) press conferences and observe his temperament as it slowly moves from green to red. It the press caught him on an "off" day and one annoying question was asked...., well, the "Adam Climer(sp?) is an asshole" thing could look like small potatoes.

By playing the odds on this, I honestly think he's going to blow soon during a most "innapropriate" opportune.
