I keep thinking about something my dad said re: Bush
When Bush first won (or, rather, was placed in office), Dad basically agreed with me that he was a lightweight. But, Dad said something like: "Don't worry, he'll have smart people around him. They won't let him screw up too badly."

WOW, was THAT ever wrong. It turns out the lightweight president is surrounded by a bunch of dimwits. :grr:

1. Actually....
I think he is surrounded by many smart people. They just may not be using their "talents" in a way that you and I think is appropriate. "Smart" doesn't mean "good" or "just".

10. I guess we could agree that
"Brownie" (former FEMA Director) wasn't one of the "smart ones"

If he was smart, then he was "evil" and "unjust".

But to me anyone who would work with these guys is "evil" and "unjust".

OUR best interests at heart...

17. Sorry, can't agree - stupid + corrupt = disaster. Chimpy & Co.
is a Category 10 disaster. Smart people have the ability for critical thinking. The last bit of critical thinking this bunch of asswipes did was deciding which dumb ass Bush Boy they would run on the ticket in 2000.

2. There used to be smart people around him.
Problem is, the good smart people like Powell and Clarke, etc. are gone. The bad smart(Rove) and bad stupid are left.

3. I remember hearing that on television.
They said Bush would surround himself with smart, capable people. I guess they overlooked the possibility that he would surround himself with sycophants.

(Seems like a lot of letters in common in the two words, sycophants and psychopaths.)

5. I heard that, too.
The thing that amazes me is that some those people who said that, still don't see he's a lame brain surrounded by incompetent enablers.

Welcome to DU by the way!!

:hi:

And, no one is capable of holding them accountable because the one's who are supposed to have either acquiesced or were part of the neocon scam from the outset.

Peace.

11. Bush's people are accomplishing exactly what they set out to:
1. reward the ruling elite
2. lock in their political power
3. destroy the govt and all social programs
4. begin unprovoked wars of aggression
5. (coming soon) pack the supreme court

12. Republican friends said that right after the first mis election.
And smugly , too. Like they had been taking the happy pills. It must have been on Faux or Limbo and repeated over lunch, at the club, and the bridge table. Group think, oh joy.

They are still doing it. They cling to being willfully, purposefully clueless.

13. You're underestimating them...
They are not dimwits...

They are not stupid, they are not morons.

They are greedy power hungry bastards and power and money is what they want, and it's what they've gotten. They've been successful at what they are doing sadly, WE HAVEN'T.

Time to change that, and the first step is to not think them stupid....

14. same with reagan....
when conning becomes the way to gain power in a democracy, or indeed anywhere, the problems are endless....eventually, you end up with out and out criminals in power, and from there it's just a step to staged elections and prefab vote counts; which is perfectly ok if the problems confronting everybody weren't so vast, and needing immediate attention by men able to lead ...bush supporters prefer conmen, and that's what they've got

16. How does a dumb president determine who's smart and who's not?
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 06:23 PM by Pobeka
Makes it kinda hard for him to choose when he's an idiot himself, doesn't it?

Old saying: A weak leader never hires a strong team.

19. He has sycophants protecting him (and themselves)
During the majority of his first term, I wondered aloud why * was screwing up so badly while surrounded by what appear to be minor-Machiavellian geniuses, as I too subscribed to the idea your dad mentioned.

However, it was at the beginning of this past year when I began reading rumors about his bad temper. It was solidified by a newspaper article (linked from very our own DU) app. two days ago regarding another of his "outbursts".

My suspicion is that he's surrounded himself with an honor guard of boot-licking, Yes-men who protect him from his cabinet briefings, newspapers, public opinion, world events or anything else that would push him over the edge.

I've known guys like *. I currently know and work with guys like * (and my father was much like *). These fella's are notorious for holding it all inside until one small, insignificant annoyance will set them off not only to the bearer of the news, but to all around him, regardless of station or rank.

What surprises me is that he hasn't been caught more often doing this. It's an interesting excessive to watch one of his (far and few between) press conferences and observe his temperament as it slowly moves from green to red. It the press caught him on an "off" day and one annoying question was asked...., well, the "Adam Climer(sp?) is an asshole" thing could look like small potatoes.

By playing the odds on this, I honestly think he's going to blow soon during a most "innapropriate" opportune.
