'Stop The Bop' To Raise Katrina $$

(CBS) Schools across the country are pitching in to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

While there are lemonade stands and bake sales from Connecticut to California, some schools are finding more creative vehicles.

Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pa., has a fun fundraising program called "Stop the Bop."

Suggested by a few members of the student council, the school is playing Hanson's 1996 hit "MMMBop" through the loudspeakers before classes begin, between periods and during lunch. The idea? Annoy students into donating; have them pay to stop the music.

The goal is $3,000, which could be reached if each of the 659 students donates $5. "MMMBop" has been playing since Wednesday, and the school has raised about $2,300 so far.

1. Right...

torture people until you get what you want (in this case, money).

That's just wrong, IMO.

That wouldn't make me donate money. That'd make me skip school.

25. It's actually from the
"Aqua Team Hunger Force" theme song. It's plays during the shows opening, and is hilarious. Honestly, I like the theme song better than I like the show :D

6. my extremely liberal daughter is going to hate that
she still carries her childhood crush for those guys.

not a good thing to teach kids to use force to get what they want, imho. just another bully tactic... some kid could get so pissed... well, i don't even want to say it.

14. Yep
So sad. They're teaching it the wrong way. *Sigh* Does your daughter know that the middle one is now married and has two kids and the youngest is in a very serious thing with someone? Dunno about the oldest. They had a cd out this past year that isn't bad. It's more rock then pop.

reminiscent of the Jackson Five, and I would definitely bop to it in my car with friends, half ironically -- and half not so ironically -- back in the day.

All in all, I don't see too much harm in that. It's just kind of funny. Not the best tactic, but, hey, it's for a good cause (I presume) and it's in good fun. Life should be more like 80s movies, where schools would get away with something like that.

(And there'd be talking ducks, ghostbusters and robots from the future, too, I suppose...)

15. You're not a lone
Even though it does get annoying it's not bad to listen to for a while. To play it that long though would get old. They do have better songs and their voices aren't squeaky anymore. I still remember when I first saw a music video of their's on MTV it was an older version of the song (music video wise) and I couldn't tell if the middle and younger ones were girls or guys. The oldest one was older so you could tell better with him. Their last cd was actually pretty good and they had an acoustic cd out.

was in that school I would have to have an attorney look into extortion charges. People shouldn't be tortured until they donate IMHO. its no different than when we blasted music at Noriega or the branch davidians
