Some of those right wing wackos have a notoriously independent (libertarian) streak. I don't think too many people will bite on the WMD bait again.

31. Another Nightmare Scenario
This freaks me out.

What is to stop these lying F**ks from pulling what they did in 2002?

Remember how that worked?

In September of '02 Card and Rove rolled out their "new product" which was the villanization of Iraq and Saddam. They cranked up the fear factor higher and higher about Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and then they pushed the IRAQ WAR RESOLUTION in front of congress in October....just before the '02 Congressional Elections! The implications of the vote on the resolution were very, very clear: Vote against it and you were weak on defense and the Repubs would pound you into the ground in the election campaign. (Max Clelland anyone?) Vote against it and you were unpatriotic.

What's to stop the Sons of Bitches from doing it all over again? Why shouldn't they beat the war drums early and often to keep them in power in '06?

How stupid can the voting public be? Pretty stupid I'm afraid.

IMCPO, THAT is our only hope. If the MSM doesn't cheer-lead for him, we'll be OK. I looks like they aren't letting up on his HUGE Katrina blunder. HOPEFULLY, they will still be sick of his crap come election 2006.

It is meant to include natural gas, as in Iran has more natural gas than any country in the world.

28. And how will we extract it ...
...
last time I checked we can't get the oil out of Iraq. The insurgents keep blowing up the pipeline.

From the "oil supply" perspective, we were better off when Saddam was smuggling it through Syria. And perhaps this was always the point. Get the Iraq oil OFF the market and drive the prices up. Iraq becomes a "bank account" for when Peak Oil really DOES happen.

At $70/barrel, the stuff is valuable, but not enought to sustain an entire mercenary army. The US taxpayers are subsidizing the Iraq boondoggle. But if we get $120/barrel oil, it will be enough so Shell and Chevron can buy their own mercenary legions.

18. This reminds me...on Sunday which was 9/11
I saw some freepers out in the town of great neck, NY. (Long Island) That had signs apparently protesting the "terrorist" leader of Iran to be removed from New York.

I was working, so I didnt have time to play with the freeps and see what the hell they were talking about but I guess he was going to the UN.

I had a feeling when I saw that there might be a push for another war in Iraq.

Same game plan, different country.

IRAN and Nukes? this is from one sick man getting more deranged with each passing day-week-month...!

Nixon began to weird out during the end of watergate so much so that Kissenger had to warn the warhawks to clear any attacks coming from the White House on any country through him first, and that's a fact!

20. Anyone have the global map of who (nations) has nukes?
It is a map that shows the number of nukes known, and has those numbers indicated on the map regarding each country.

I know I saw this somewhere on DU a few weeks back.
Have searched and can't find it. Much apreciated if found and posted.

Have been reading about the possibility of pre-emptive force using nukes, and it scares the bejesus out of me. The hubris of this administration to assume nations stand alone is beyond naivety; it is insane. Iran nuked? Russia retaliates. Syria nuked? China retaliates. Any nation nuked? N. Korea moves into high gear. Any nation nuked guarantees retaliation.

OMG If this goes through, we, as a nation and the world at large, are so far beyond fucked.

29. Iranian nukes threaten us ... NOT ...

Iran with a nuke is ZERO threat to the USA. All it means is that the US can't fuck with Iran. Which is pretty much the situation already.

An Iranian nuke neither changes anything nor ADDS anything. Iran can't use a nuke on us. We can't us a nuke on Iran (now or before).

He has the football. He LOVES that he has the football, and would ENJOY punting. We have a completely narsissitic sociopath at the helm, and that's exactly what that insanely hungry for global domination PNAC wanted when they finagled him into position.

34. The stupidity is beyond reason ...
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 12:27 PM by chicagiana
Rational people have LONG ago figured out that nukes are STRATEGIC weapons. The notion of TACTICAL nuclear weaponry is farsical. Nukes have been used ONCE. And if Japan HAD nukes, they would have retaliated.

If we used a tactical nuke, we WOULD be nuked in return. I don't care if you nuke PARAGUAY. Someone would GIVE somebody a nuke that would be smuggled INTO the US and detonated. And perhaps THIS is the situation they want to setup.

a) Bush NUKES Iran.
b) Sabre rattling throughout the world. Governments start operations to sneak a nuke (or bio-weapons) into the US.
c) Before they get a chance, Bush sets off a nuke on some decidedly Blue city in a BLUE state ... let's say ... err... LOS ANGELAS ... or ... CHICAGO.
d) Martial law is declared in order to root out the "insurgent menace". Elections are "suspended".

I can see Bush's speach on to the Senate about how much he "loves Democracy".

Too many people hate the second Star Wars trilogy. The truth is they just plain don't get it. Fighting against "the menace" is easy to portray with it's simplistic archetypes. Realizing that the REAL menace lurks within our own best intentions is too hard to grasp and too difficult to stomach.

I'm sure all the freepers out there wathing "Rome" out there don't get it either. They're all rooting for the heroic Ceaser to put down the pendantic ramblings of Pompey.
