47. I don't know how to answer this question.

On the one hand, I think that race did play into it in a broader way. Poverty played into it simply because when you are poor, everything is harder.

On the other hand I think Bush is incompetent and totally unprepared for a disaster. He put our resources into Iraq, has ignored Global Warming and how it effects storms, did not give NO the money to fix their problems. Race did not make those decisions. Race did not hire a completely unqualified Michael Brown and staff to run FEMA.

People need to know that Bush is NOT KEEPING THEM SAFE...regardless of their color, class or where they live.

Here in Virginia we had Isabel a few years ago. It was "a day at the beach" compared to Katrina...few deaths, but many homes were destroyed. Coastal property is expensive so it was the upper class that received much of the damage. I can tell you that anyone who had to deal with FEMA was totally disgusted with them and often just gave up. FEMA dragged it's feet so long that any help they provided was canceled by the cost of having to stay somewhere else until they could move back home.
