Pastors pledge political unity on social front

By Jon Craig Enquirer staff writer
CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

COLUMBUS - Christian pastors made it clear here last week that Ohio
will remain a pivotal political battleground to advance their
opposition to abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, pornography,
strip clubs, gambling and "activist" judges.

It was no coincidence Ohio was ground zero in the 2004 presidential
election, said the Rev. Rod Parsley, founder of the Center for Moral
Clarity. Parsley spoke during a breakfast meeting at World Harvest
Church. He encouraged fellow pastors to circulate petitions calling for fair and swift confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court nominee John Roberts. He also asked church leaders to help register 400,000 new Ohio voters as part of the Reformation Ohio project. His group has goals parallel to the Ohio Restoration Project, led by Rev. Russell Johnson of Lancaster.

Repeating his opposition to same-sex marriage, Parsley stressed the
need to protect traditional marriage between a man and a woman. "I
will sound the alarm about tortured and angry homosexuals,'' he
said, drawing standing ovations from an audience of more than 1,300.
Quoting from his best-selling book, "Silent No More,'' Parsley also
expressed concern about the world's growing Muslim population: "I
will rail against the idea that the God of Christianity and the god
of Islam are the same being.''

Keynote speaker Zell Miller, a former Georgia governor and
Democratic U.S. Senator, endorsed Secretary of State Ken Blackwell,
a candidate for Ohio governor, who sat in the front row. "You are
the kind of leader this state, any state, needs,'' he said, offering
to hand out campaign leaflets "on the corner in Portsmouth'' if
asked.

13. Moral Clarity?
What exactly is the moral clarity in allowing people to die because they can't afford a car? what is the moral clarity in starting a war based om outright lies? What is the moral clarity in creating an economy where more and more children are plunged into poverty and fewer people have access to medical care while the rich get richer by the minute?

Help me out here- this Jew just doesn't get it, Rod.

This is a perfect example of why it is so needed.

One a personal note: Zell Miller needs to kicked out of this Party once and for all. He no longer reflects the values of this Party, and therefore, his jettisoning will be a powerful message to all DINOs, all who have supported him (Carville and Begala, eminently... thanks for getting this asshole elected, guys. It proves you will do anything for a buck!), and all Americans that this disgusting Bozo no longer speaks as a Democrat. He is beyond an embarrassment at this point, he is a DISGRACE!

They'd put up a greater fight against DIVORCE . . .

Edited to add:
You know, this would really make a great bumper sticker (in Ohio):

"Heterosexual DIVORCE is a greater threat to marriage than a Homosexual MARRIAGE!"

12. Rod Parsley is one of the most EVIL and conniving phony
Greedy hypocrites on the face of the earth. A few years back he was on a plane with his dad and they both got into a fist fight with another passenger. It was front page news. But what does "pastor" Rod do? He goes on to bilk his congregation out of millions of dollars...building a huge church and gave himself the finest lifestyle money can buy. He is worth MILLIONS and it all came from donations put into the collection plate. He is nothing but a bum who never worked, except for stealing from the poor, rich, and ignorant people who believed they were doing the right thing in putting in their money to the church. Anyone who supports bu$h and his gang of thugs, can't be honest and decent people. They are ALL in it for the money....and to make sure other peoples beliefs which are different from theirs are snuffed out.We live in an evil society today ran by rightwingnuts who use Jesus and God as an excuse to do their dirty deeds. It's pathetic.

26. Once again, The "Conservative" Sermon on the Mount
Blessed are the rich for all good things trickle down from them. Cursed are the poor for poverty results from their moral failings.

Blessed are the war makers for they keep freedom on the march. Cursed are the peacemakers for they shall be called appeasers.

Blessed are those who inflict harsh punishments for they maintain law and order. Cursed are those who forgive for they shall be called soft on crime.

Blessed are those who pray loudly standing in the churches and on the corners sounding the trumpet before them. Cursed are those who shut the closet door and pray in secret for their prayers are not heard.

Blessed are those who cast the first stone for the sake of sexual morality for that is the only morality that matters. Cursed are those who see sexuality as a private matter for marriage must be defended against them.

Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 09:26 PM by lizziegrace
As someone who's from central Ohio and attends church semi-regularly, I would like to say that Rod Parsley does NOT represent the views of most pastors or church-goers in Ohio. Our church houses homeless families as we are part of a network here in the city. We do more community service than most because it's the right thing to do.

I'm embarassed by Rod Parsley. He's building a self-contained compound southeast of the city and even has his own college on the grounds. A friend attended a service there once and they are "locked in" and he was not allowed to leave.

The man is truly frightening.

Part of the 501c3 tax code, which is what churches are, says that they can't do that or they will lose their tax exemption. I seem to remember that the IRS threatened to take away the NAACP's tax exempt statue just before the 2004 election.

35. Republicans oppose none of those things
Christian pastors made it clear here last week that Ohio
will remain a pivotal political battleground to advance their
opposition to abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, pornography,
strip clubs, gambling and "activist" judges.

I would imagine that most Republicans would support abortion if their daughter got pregnant at a young age or was raped. They just don't think other people should get abortions. Its the hypocrisy.

They won't oppose stem-cell research once they find out how much potential for money there could be for people who invest in the research, and how much pharmaceutical companies could make from drugs developed through stem-cell research.

Republicans have no objections to pornography, strip clubs, or sexual debauchery. Hell, one conservative admitted to bestiality on Alan Colmes' show, and treated it as though it were a common practice in red areas, by "true Americans".

Republicans don't fret much about gambling. I've seen plenty of Bush loyalists in casinos. They don't seem at all ashamed to be gambling and sinning and drinking.

And, they certainly don't have a problem with "activist judges". In fact, they have made it very clear that they want judges who will interpret the law using the Bible first and the Constitution second, judges who will bring their own religious views into their decisions on the bench, and ones who will rewrite laws until the country becomes a Theocracy.

And, BTW, he is correct when he says "It was no coincidence that Ohio was ground zero for the 2004 Presidential Election".

But its not for any of the reasons he cites. Its because of the massive amounts of voter suppression and fraud practiced by the GOP in a state where, surprise surprise, the person in charge of counting the votes also happens to be an avid Bush supporter.
