"America Supports You Freedom Walk"
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 08:56 AM by pnorman
So what was the outcome of that march? I see NO screaming headlines about it being a "smashing success". Scattered mention of it here on DU indicates that it was not only a lackluster turnout, but that most of the marchers were under some 'pressure" to make a public presence (ie: government employees and the like).

With all due respect to my beloved DU, this isn't the place to find fulsome reports of that obviously Orwellian event. But still, the muted response elsewhere makes me go ... Hmmmm?

On edit: I pretty well got my answer with these first 5 replies. But I want to pursue this aggressively on another forum where there are a few Bush-admirers. I'll keep checking this thread during the day.

2. I saw no reports on TV or in print all day yesterday
Maybe the turnout was so embarrassing a decision was made to downplay?

3. I just think most of us have more important things to think about.

They didn't even show it on C-SPAN were I live. Also, keep in mind that media coverage was not allowed.

This video turned up at Canofun.com, however.

4. ..must have been some big damn flop
to have gone completely unreported like that.. Although I DO seem to remember one picture of Rummy at a podium somewhere yesterday... was that it?

I'd love to hear from any DC DUer who noticed some red, white & blue litter blowing down the street sometime yesterday..

5. It made the "C" section (no pun intended) Washington Post this morning
Small goofy article - "many people coming together", etc.

Whoopee.

6. I think the bad grammar in the event title did them in.

Oh, and the idea of a Pentagon-sponsored march through the streets of the capital in order to send a political message.

Maybe that rubbed most Americans the wrong way, too.

7. CSAPN showed a lot of whites in tennis shoes walking in a parking lot
and behind chain link fences in some sort of enforced patriot march to nowhere.
After a while, even CSPAN abandoned the coverage.

8. Just viewed the clip
looks like...say....2500 to 3000? in the walk?

I'm disturbed by the number of uniformed personnel shown in the pictures.....some were literally marching in step and in ranks....were they under orders?

The whole thing was propaganda and we should not stand for it....

btw: isn't there a law about using Federal Funds for "propaganda"? I seem to remember some questions about that when the Armstrong Williams fiasco was in the headlines...

anybody?

9. I read the accounts in the Post and the NY Times
Neither one of them would venture an estimate beyond "thousands" of the number of walkers. No pictures, no other information that might lead the unwary reader to conclude that the entire event was a huge flop. So this is one more little event from the corrupt Bush administration that will be swallowed in the mists of history.

11. On our local news last night they showed clips of every 9-11
ceremony except for that one, maybe because they realized it was tacky, disrespectful, and celebrated corporations instead of being a memorial?
