Imagine if a Democrat showed up at a fundraiser
and minister said "New Orleans was flooded because God is punishing us for invading Iraq". And his response was " I don't agree with that but far be it from me to divine the will of the Almighty" What do you think would happen? Sounds insane and ludricrious, doesn't it. Yet it happened in reverse.

McKissic said he listed aspects of the Crescent City: "They have devil worship. They advertise 'Sin City' tours. They celebrate Southern decadence. Girls go wild in New Orleans.

"Sometimes God does not speak through natural phenomena," McKissic said. "This may have nothing to do with God being offended by homosexuality. But possibly it does," he said

Gov. Rick Perry spoke at two private events this week where a Texas minister wondered if God sent Hurricane Katrina to purify the nation of sins, including homosexuality.

The GOP leader didn't object at the gatherings in San Antonio and Houston on Thursday.

Gubernatorial spokesman Robert Black, contacted Friday, said: "The governor does not agree with that. But far be it for the governor to try to divine the will of the Almighty.

end of quote

Why is it OK for our leaders to let radical clerics say these things in their presence? Again, we all know that if a Democrat had done the example I cited it would be the top story. This had been no where on MTP, no where on Late Edition.

1. Because Homosexuals don't matter in America
We don't even matter in some places where you wouldn't expect.

2. Well, we matter when we are a good football
We are great when we can be exploited for TV ratings, where we are collectively reduced to fashionistas, trite oversexed airheads, and token people for diversity awareness time in sitcoms, reality shows, and made for TV movies.

We are splendid when politicians use us to go up in the world, and then go back to ignoring us once again until next time for a step up the ladder.

We matter to the Religion Right...we are a great scapegoat for the doom and gloom that nature dishes out.

When we are not footballs, we are left to fight the right and many on the left again and again for rights, for equality, even for mere recognition that we exist and need protections from hate crimes.

We and our core of straight allies have to fight for whatever we get in life. The sooner we realize that the better.

3. Of course
Which is quite sad. Gays, women, blacks. It's really sad. Of course, as the orignial poster said, if it was the democrats doing this we'd be called racists and sexists. But when we do that to them they scream: blame game, blame game! :eyes:

5. Blame Game: Go Cheney Yourselves, Pukes.
I am so sick of that shit. Sick to my soul with that lame attempt to pass the buck. Somehow, eight year, billion dollar witchunts against a Democratic president is great. What do they come up with? Lies about a BJ.

But when it comes to ineptitude and thousands dying needlessly, in Iraq or NOLA or anywhere, it is "not time to play the blame game." The tables have turned; now the ROTUS has actually done something majorly wrong, and they start whining and sniveling. And BLAMING anyone who they can that is not a Puke.

And as far as I am concerned, I hope "Brownie" gets the shit kicked out of him by a pissed of Arabian horse. Some sort of poetic justice there, I think.

7. And what gets me about that is
why were they so poliet with Edwards when he said basically the same thing??? But since Kerry points out the obvious and something basically people knew if they followed these people they would know. :eyes: And then after that their daughter, Mary, was out and campaigning for Bush to get the gay vote. Oh yeah right.
