?!?!?!? NPR on ATC said probaly less than 10,000 dead
don't remember if they were talking only NO or the entire Katrina area

my first thought: just like some DUers predicted, the numbers of reported dead will be low to mask bushco's failures

statement was something like 'it's now projected that the death toll will be much lower than originally assumed'

1. 10,000 is still 10,000
That's a hell of a lot of people.

Unacceptable!

2. How can they possibly make a prediction before all the water has been
drained out of the area? They have no idea what they will find at the bottom of that sludge.

5. Based on the rate at which
they are encountering dead bodies.

Those familiar with comparable disasters were expecting more bodies, everywhere.

4. Number is probably lower in NO.
I always thought 10,000 was high, given that 75,000 (at least) have been evacuated from the city post-flood already. Probabaly more like 85,000 evacutated by now.

If less than 100,000 remained in the city, it's unlikely they are all dead.

I predict between 1000-5000 killed in NO.

6. I heard Pat Buchanan saying today that he thought the death toll
would be FAR lower than 5k.

Interesting these proclamations are coming on the heels of the attempted media blackout.

9. Same thing on CNN.
And you were so worried that a lot of people died. But if less people died it wasn't really that bad now was it? :sarcasm:

10. thats still a lot of dead
thank god the death toll isnt as high as predicted. But that still doesn't change the fact that bush left people stranded to starve and die.
