This is very interesting, in a freeper pyscho-analisis sort of way...

1. Hey, freeps
Colin Powell is the only major player so far with big enough you-know-whats to stand up like MAN and say he was wrong. Your Bush is one big puss. Damn, I just made that up--on my own, even.

2. Nicely done!!!
My favorite post was the one where the guy was downright perplexed that Colin would say there was no link between Iraq and Al Quaida. Perplexed I tell ya.

6. Indeed
I have far more respect for the man now. I still think he likes to ride the fence and should just go ahead and step off to the left.

I'm reminded of the look of shock on Shapiro's face when OJ was pronounced not guilty when I saw the look on Powell's face those days he spoke all those lies. I think he knew back then, I really do. I think it pained him and he did it anyway.

3. Well, he's a traitor as far as the collective braintrust thinks over there
They still are trying to convince themselves that there was a real justification to invade and occupy Iraq. Poor deluded saps.

4. Powell is still the apologist for right wing indifference....
<snip>
Powell doesn't think race was a factor in the slow delivery of relief to the hurricane victims as some have suggested. "I don't think it's racism, I think it's economic," he told Walters.

"When you look at those who weren't able to get out, it should have been a blinding flash of the obvious to everybody that when you order a mandatory evacuation, you can't expect everybody to evacuate on their own. These are people who don't have credit cards; only one in 10 families at that economic level in New Orleans have a car. So it wasn't a racial thing -- but poverty disproportionately affects African-Americans in this country. And it happened because they were poor," he said.

<end of snip>

And these people were poor because......"...these are people who don't have credit cards" ahaa, ok..."...don't have cars"...oh I see, "...don't have jobs"...right on there, "....are invisible to all republicans because their skin is a whole lot darker than mine". I know, Colin did not say that, I stuck that one in. Just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention...:yoiks:

7. Right, it was still a spin
Poor or not, if those people were 80% white, they would have been out of there.

9. not so sure about that
I know lots of poor white people, and no one gives a damn about them either. And the way what's left of anti-poverty programs are set up, it's almost like it was purposely designed to set poor whites, blacks and hispanics against each other (yes, I know. It was). I still think that this whole situation is worse for blacks, and will continue to be worse for them, because the refusal to really attack poverty in the US is based on a refusal to help blacks, and many whites think that black=poor.

So, I was glad to hear Powell make his observation about the effect of poverty because a big part of the reason that poverty is so intractable and there is such a flimsy safety net is, in fact, race. But "respectable" white people don't want to admit to racism, so if we can launch an anti-poverty program in the wake of Katrina's aftermath, maybe this time we can actually get one that works on a color-blind basis.

I feel unclean reading that tripe. Still, it is important to visit the other side from time to time.

8. this one's a classic,
a believer in intelligent design calling Powell stupid!

He was a token promoted along to look good. He's a stupid man. If it weren't for HIS color, he never would have been in a position of authority.

I'm not a fan of Powell, but if he's stupid, then doesn't this pretty much put the Chimp around the level of a sub-atomic particle?
