Just like roaches, the bigots come out at night
Listening to CSPAN this morning was like attending a KKK rally. There was talk of welfare queens and what should be done about the (black) people who do not want to pull their weight in our civilized society. It was hard to tell which line the Democrats were on because unless Brian Lamb was only allowing Bush callers to get through many of them sounded the same: self-righteous, arrogant, judgmental and yes, racist!!!!!

Not one time did I hear it mentioned that America bears some responsibility for the plight of these people. This tragedy has brought to the surface a discussion that we have needed to have for a long time in our country. Although many black people have come a long way since the days of segregation, there are still far too many who suffer from the curse that America and its racist policies placed on them.

Many black people don't have a legacy of home ownership or college education. In my own family, some of the first to ever attend college came out of my generation. Some people just don't seem to get it. Black people are not on a level playing field because we are trying to dig ourselves up from the hole that America put us in.

The bigots have used these dark days to come out from their holes and pile on the people who are suffering. Many of these suffering people are hard-working taxpayers who don't get anything from the government except more heartache in their hour of need. The light should be turned on to the fact that we need more access to education, training and decent wages which will allow these citizens an equal right to the American dream. If not, the bigots will continue to roam furthering policies which instead of making America greater seem to only make America darker.

4. I think his name was Douglas Brinkley
He was quite good. It was the callers that I could not believe. And I was surprised that Brian Lamb asked him very few questions. I don't think I've ever seen him be so hands-off during an interview.

14. Brinkley is a Professor History at Tulane (now evacauted to Houston)
Hands down, he was the BEST guest ever on CSAPN WJ. He was brilliant. He refuted every RW talking point in a calm and straight forward manner. He did not speak down to anyone. He spoke the TRUTH.

Instead of facist Friday it was KKK Friday. Those people are scary.

16. Not only didn't Brian
ask Brinkley many questions, today he kept reading article from right wing publications. I kept hoping some would call in to call him on it. The bigots are out in drove. It's been going on for the last two weeks. They are all saying the same things; blacks on welfare, always looking for the government to help them, never made a decision in their lives, to stupid to evacuate when told. It's just been so disheartening. Many of the people in NO worked for a living, others were elderly or disabled yet the racists continue spouting lies. I don't think this is just a few people, either. I think there are millions of people who feel exactly as those right wing callers.

Some people are, at heart, so un-happy, even though they "have everything" they've sacrificed so much of their own unique needs, potentials, and abilities they never developed, sacrificed to our economic system (Mammon), they've starved so much of their own souls, that they CANNOT be happy. Thus, when they see others "getting away with it" i.e. living without making the same or similar sacrifices, they resent them, not really for what these others are getting, but for WHAT THEY DIDN'T "pay"/sacrifice FOR what they have. This is one of the reasons people who are "different" are regarded with suspicion and not be-friended.

Whatever the cause, Black people as a group, get less from the system, ergo, as a group, they are less likely to sacrifice intrinsic parts of who/what they are to it. Though they are discriminated against socially, some of them are personally more free, in important personal ways, than many "white" people. This is one source of resentment.

9. Done.
What all these idiot talking heads seem to forget is that over 75% of those "freeloaders" in New Orleans were employed and making a living.

Don't get me started on "welfare queens". Whose the bigger welfare queen, Haliburton or Cheney?

10. They came out during the middle of the day here in Indiana.
I sat in a bar and watched the levee breaches flooding the city while several handjacks were laughing their red assess off about fat welfare queens. Like these poeple were animals. One quote I will never forget "look at that one, that's your money right there" Disgusting. Finally, a Kenny Rogers looking fellow busted up the hatefest. I was in such shock by what was going on and then the freeperish response added on top I sat speechless.

I haven't clicked on it yet but I plan to. Men who look like Kenny Rogers are in abundance around here. Well groomed beard, snow white matching beard and hair. etc.

I'm sure somewhere today he is serenading a lucky closted midwestern liberal lady. The small town women love this guy. I see him everywhere. I've lived here for two months.

That site is funny stuff.

hurricanehousing site to allow for the reporting of offensive listings. Way too many of the first listings specifically stated white-only or a preference for caucasian.

19. black people aren't considered citizens
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 03:17 PM by noiretblu
except during the olympics, is how i explained this to a friend last night who insists all of this is about class. these black people are not seen as the victims of a natural disaster, like the residents of malibu are every year when their houses burn up (in the summer) and slide down the hill (in the winter), but as they are *always* seen as stereotypes (or rather projections), per the examples in your post.

21. The bigots are scared that they will be poor also.
What we have seen on TV is something we don't want to admit to. The racists have misplaced their anger. They blame the victims. They are scared because they are only one pay check away from poverty themselves.

I think they know that America is fast becoming a third world country and they are powerless to do anything about it.
