It's human nature to look for the "silver lining" in everything that goes wrong in life. Our situation after Hurricane Katrina is no different. We need the stories of individual heroism and generosity towards those whose lives were devastated. However, if the spinmeisters in the current administration have their way, we will soon be focused on the latter to the point that they can make us forget or ignore the incredible malfeasance of this administration, which made the disaster far worse than it had to be.
I'm thoroughly disgusted and heartbroken by what our government has become. America is gravely wounded -- not by enemies from afar, but from within.
It's time to get back to basics.
It's time to remember our national identity and purpose.
Every government official, elected or appointed, takes basically the same oath of office -- and that is to uphold and defend our Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Our current "leaders" have broken their oaths over and over and over again. They have become America's enemies.
If the ONLY good that comes out of this disaster and national travesty is a new mobilization of The People as a community against the bushbots and neocons and corporate oligarchy, we can turn our country around and reverse the disastrous course we have been on for the last five years. We have allowed the elite power mongers -- the "haves, the have mores, and the want-yours-too's" -- to corrupt our true national purpose.
We desperately need to get back to it:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
That's it. That's all of it -- our national identity and purpose in a nutshell. Everything our government does or proposes to do should be measured against the six simple goals stated above. It's as pure and simple as true Christian identity and purpose being summarized in Matthew 5:1-12 and 22:36-40.
What part of the above have we actually been doing in recent years? Absolutely none! We must reassess and renew our purpose -- which is not ignoring the needs of our own people while we impose domination and devastation on other nations.
There are always those who want to complicate and corrupt matters for their own nefarious purposes and it's up to We The People to stop them.
It's time to get back to basics. Together.
