they knew the type of inflammatory rhetoric he is famous for, that's exactly why they hired him. they already have chris the screamer, and they had just dumped donahue for a more hard right voice. now they act like they can't have a guy like savage making them look bad, and publicly state that his views do not reflect the management's.
gimmee a break! they hired that jerkoff knowing full well what he was all about.

about that wind-up toy. :scared: And I agree, they certainly knew what he was about. What they didn't get was that most people don't actually like that sort of loudmouth, hostile jerk. I wish they would get rid of Scarborough too- he annoys me just as much.

8. how much you wanna bet...
...this was part of that creep's plan all the time anyway.
he was just going to get worse and worse until the HAD to fire him. It was probably too much like work to do TV. now he can piss and moan about the horrible liberals that have tried to silence him, and well, he's not going to take it, he's going to get up and scream and sue, the phony homo liberals who are trying to destroy this great country and.....whew, what the hell was all that?
Well I'm sure 'savage' thinks he's some kindof martyr now...

Fired "on anti-gay comments"? But wait. Just weeks ago, MSNBC stated that Savage's views represented "legitimate" ideas, and that the network not only was more than aware of his position on gays:

The addition of Michael Savage to the MSNBC lineup was made with the full awareness of his reputation for controversy and confrontation. We respect the right of those who wish to protest. However, we also strongly defend his new show as a legitimate attempt to expand the marketplace of ideas.

5. it's called desperation
when you're barely drawing enough of an audience to reach a 0.1 in the Nielsen ratings, you'll hire anyone you can. i've heard he's only been avg. about a 0.2 in the ratings, so this was probably a good reason to can him - especially considering how much $$$ they were paying him.

4. Of course they knew
They figured that the controversy would stir up ratings. You don't think they cancelled him because they care about civil rights, do you?

6. MSNBC should stand for Mega-Socialist Nazi Broadcasting Company
---------- from 7/05/03's SAVAGE NATION ----------

SAVAGE: So you're one of those sodomists. Are you a sodomite?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, I am.

SAVAGE: Oh, you're one of the sodomites. You should only get AIDS and die, you pig. How's that? Why don't you see if you can sue me, you pig. You got nothing better than to put me down, you piece of garbage. You have got nothing to do today, go eat a sausage and choke on it. Get trichinosis.

OK, do we have another nice caller here who's busy because he didn't have a nice night in the bathhouse who's angry at me today? Get me another one, put another sodomite on. No more calls out of-- let's go to the next scene. I don't care about these bums. They mean nothing to me. They're all sausages. Next scene; onto the next scene on the Savage Nation.

---------- thanks to F.A.I.R. for the transcript ----------

And these guys fired Phil Donahue for THAT!!!????? These guys honestly thought that Donahue's views on the war was "too extream" for MSNBC viewers and they hired HIM to take Phil's place???!!! What in Hell was the network of Edward R. Murrow thinking????!!!! MSNBC president Erik Sorenson needs to go to Phil Donahue and kiss his ass right now! He needs to get on TV and apologize to the American people for even giving this stupid, facist pig the benefit of the doubt. Better still, GE, Microsoft and NBC needs to fire Sorenson immediately!

I know that'll be a cold day in Hell, but one could only dream.

they thought he'd make them some big bucks!! His ratings sucked, so this was just a convenient way to ditch him.

10. My e-mail to MSNBC about Savage:
MSNBC:

So you finally have had enough? Michael Savage should never have been an idea, much less an actual TV show on your network. Your cable network is dead last, and that is as it should be. You are trying to outFOX FOX and you cannot do it. They have Murdoch in their corner and his money and hatred for anything other then rightwing garbage will always keep FOX ahead.

But you can try and repair the damage done to your network by hiring liberal and moderate commentators to balance out your rightwing tendencies. But I know you will not, because then you will have to admit you made a mistake by firing Phil Donahue and hiring Savage. And we know that people like you NEVER admit a mistake.

I leave you to your misery.

xxxxx xxxxxx

I sent it this am and have not had a response back, and I don't think I will.

14. I remember the e-mail campaign here at DU to keep Sorensen from hiring him
and all the e-mails we sent. I personally sent three to different folks at MSNBC and never got a reply.....and that was pretty much when I stopped watching them at all. It was easy to see they were ramming that "Invasion" down our throats and hiring Savage and most of the other of their crew showed how pathetic they were.

That's also when I stopped e-mailing any of the "whore cables." I knew it wasn't worth it. Too much e-mailing and no one gave a damn. They did what they wanted to......so I agree with what you said in your e-mail. Let them live with their mistakes. How stale the Faux format becomes when it's everywhere!!
