3. If Bush had a soul, he would direct a public works program to rebuild
instead of diverting public funds to his cronies as usual. The neocons look for profits at the expense of the American people. Fat cats prospers while the working poor of the south suffer!

10. When the time comes for re-building, NO residents should be offered jobs
and wages before the Halliburton crooks. Some will not want to come back and will have settled in new locations, but the ones who want to return, and are interested, should be given the opportunity.

13. And they should be good paying jobs
With a living wage. But that would be too much to ask for since Halliburton really needs the profits.

I worry that with Halliburton in charge they would only exploit these people further.

11. Halliburton was given rebuilding contracts BEFORE water was sent.
BushCabalInc.™ was already taking care of CORPORATIONS
on Sept. 1st....

How many stranded people died that day?
How many DIED the day after?
How many died YESTERDAY?

Impeachment has NEVER been as necessary as it is NOW.

have CNN follow me around too.

BA, MA, MBA, JD with my most recent degree being earned in 2001. I successfully changed careers and advanced in my new career only to be laid off. Now jobless for nearly 3 years. I've collected literally thousands of rejections.

I'm considering going to trade school in another country and using that as a tool to expatriate myself. If I am successful I plan to have a diploma burning party. There is no future for me here.

On edit:

I don't want to be insensitive to the need for jobs by the hurricane victims. My circumstances are very fortunate in comparison. Just pointing out that the jobs issue affects many other folks.

7. The poor have a work ethic?
Who'da thunk it? The republicans don't know that poor people work. They think they lay around and draw big fat welfare checks.

8. For the short term

and as they are ready, they should be paid doing various tasks in the venues whether they have been evacuated. This will give them a feeling of (some) self reliance and responsibility for their temporary homes. And some money to spend and some sense of control.

Some can become employees of FEMA or whoever takes over longer term responsibilites for the displaced. This will free FEMA people to go back to their jobs of planning and preparing for future disasters and allow volunteers from various organizations (or individuals) to return to their normal lives or readiness roles.

Obviously there will be details and differences with repect to the venues.

Longer term they will need jobs more attuned to their skills and work history but that will depend on the local environments and may involve some relation between evacuation centers.

9. Call me crazy, but why can't some of the displaced be given jobs
rebuilding NO? As FDR did, a Public Works Department could hire, house, and pay them a decent wage. In turn, they could work to rebuild the city they loved and called home.

I know it was th 40's, but that could work now, couldn't it? If they truly want to work, why can't they be first in line to do some of the labor that will be necessary?
