Nightline Friday 10/3 Several furious former CIA officers speak out
Nightline Daily E-Mail
October 3, 2003

TONIGHT'S SUBJECT: They live in a world that goes by different rules. Often, they can't even tell their families what they really do. And if the truth gets out, it can cost them, or their associates, dearly. They are spies, and they are furious about the leaking of the identity of one of their own.

<snip>

Yesterday, we were approached by several former CIA officers who had trained with Amb. Wilson's wife. They are furious. They said they wanted to come on and talk about what they do, the lives they lead, and why the disclosure of an officer's identity is so harmful. They say their concerns are not political, in fact there's not a Democrat in the group. They'll talk about their motivation for coming forward. We thought this was an opportunity to hear about a world that most of us only know through books and movies. In fact, one of them, even though no longer an officer, will still have to have their identity and voice disguised, for fear of compromising other agents, and of the danger that they themselves would face.

So tonight will be a slightly different kind of Nightline. Chris Bury will sit down with our five guests, and they will give us a glimpse of their world. It should be fascinating.

---------------------------

This should be a good show. Fire up the VCR's.

53. Best. Nightline. Ever.
It defined the BFEE, a group more interested in advancing its own political power than in protecting the national security interests of the United States. Republican or Democrat, that is treason.

BTW: The hooded lady, all in black shadow, was pretty darn scary, too.

61. It's probably worse.
There are all the people these exposed people knew. There are all the organizations these contacts and agents worked with and had contact with. And all the people there. The loss to our national security is enormous.

Perhaps worse will be the future, when the US will have a difficult, if not impossible, time recruiting new agents. This field Bushler exposed is particularly important for the national security interests of the United States — nuclear proliferation.

Gee. Thanks a lot Sneer and Smirk. You too, Turd Blossom!

As the hooded Jane Doe explained, inability to have "Human Intel" on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq is why we have no Osama or Saddam in custody (or six feet under) today.

Yeh. It's no wonder they are pissed.

Exposing the ambassador's wife will only serve to make it more difficult to get the kind of people the US needs to defend itself. This is some serious stuff. It really is treason.

BTW: A hearty welcome to DU, Dems Will Win. I like your handle and your sentiments!

63. Check LBN - Novak put his foot in it again
He named the CIA front company Mrs. Wilson used as cover. Apparently she used that name on her campaign donation to Al Gore. Never mind that her husband donated to Bush. They continue to smear her. Now they have endangered anyone else who was using that company name. I want to see trials for treason. I will pay for cable if they air it on Court TV. I want to see all of them in handcuffs, the whole entire bush crime family.

76. Keep on keepin' on, Stephanie!
Thanks for the heads-up! The day's coming when ALL these bed-wetting bastids are indicted and prosecuted for Treason, Crimes Against Humanity, and everything else they've done — from murder to looting the US Treasury. The line's been drawn. There are the good who are on the side of the US Constitution and the bad who think they're above the law.

Drury on Nightline kept asking these five former CIA agents if it was political. They all said they were Republicans and politics had nothing to do with it. If anything, the White House exposed their friends — yes, Democratic friends — and endangered the national security interests of the country to make a political point — mess with us and we'll burn you, your family and everyone you've ever come in contact with.

PS: Remember when Neil was getting the divorce thing? His ex-wife said Neil told her to keep it zipped or she would end up in an alley somewhere. And he's supposed to be the nice one.

the Bush Crime Family doesn't WANT them in custody. Both have been and probably still are business partners to the Cabal and both know a great deal about the Bush Crime Family's crimes.

Which are "handled" by CIA operatives like the ambassador's wife. The numbers may be worse by the time this is all over. And at home, we may really have a mushroom cloud.

That's the other treason part.

110. Al Martin's article, archived at IndyMedia:
The Ambassador Wilson Affair: The End of Karl Rove -
And George Bush?

By Al Martin
9-3-3

http://www.rense.com/general41/endof.htm

Ambassador Joseph Wilson has been turning up the heat in this situation. He revealed on Friday August 29 in a symposium in Washington the person in the Bush administration, who had leaked it out to the Washington Post that Wilson's wife is a CIA agent of 26 years. As a consequence of this leak, her entire team of overseas assets were liquidated.

The leaker, it turns out, was none other than the notorious Karl H. Rove, Bush's so-called White House advisor. Ambassador Wilson identified him as Karl Roverer, with the umlaut over the "o."

According to reliable sources, as well as our own Al Martin Raw.com investigation, Karl Rove is, in fact, the grandson of Karl Heinz Roverer, the gauleiter of Mecklenburg, who was also a partner and senior engineer of Roverer Sud-Deutche Ingenieurbüro AG. They built Birchenau, the concentration camp in Nazi Germany.

So Karl Rove has been identified as the leaker responsible for the deaths of more than 70 CIA assets overseas (See previous story "Will the Real Chemical Ali Please Stand Up? The Curious Case of Ambassador Joseph Wilson)

I am upset about undercover operatives being exposed this way - I'm also a person who despises the CIA for killing, meddling, manuevering for in-noble agendas - agendas enthusiastically entered in to for Republicans (or so it seems to me). They are not an agency, they are a sub-government. They are primarily responsible for the hate felt towards this country. You can say it was ordered by the administration in charge, but who knows?

Analyst, undercover, it doesn't matter.

Guy #3. Even if you are an analyst, you will travel and need cover. There is the question of loyalty, politics shouldn't matter. They (the leakers) didn't think of the consequences to her or her contacts overseas

Jane Doe: Bush was complaining that they had no human intel to track Osama and Saddam and here they are outing an agent. Potential recruits will now say, if you can't protect your own people, how can you protect me?

81. This is really pecular...
I just had a flash to post 16 when I read your post. If this is a fight between the pentagon cia and the real CIA, then if Bush were assasinated the CIA could be discredited and the OSP would win given the propaganda machine the media has become. I hope whoever (the FBI, I think) takes care of Bush does a good job!

Sorry to be alarmist. I'm usually not this way but I got real goose bumps and felt like I had to post this. I've enjoyed connivance in literature but I never connected it to real life until I got into political scheming.

I hope I'm not being too fanciful, but, still...:scared:

They've just started on Junior.

By the way, the CIA currently doesn't rely on domestic assassination any more, certainly not since the killings of MLK and RFK. But, they are THE masters at piling up facts. Congress will have no choice but to unload the Bushies, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Don't know the name of the one who said this about Wilson, "His wife was attacked, and like any man of any conviction, he's going to her aid."

This is how I feel about Wilson. I think this is how America will view Wilson when they grok the story. His wife was attacked in an egregious way and any man would respond like Wilson did. It's not politics, it's principal.

Thanks for fixing my spelling! :)

How about, it's not politics, it's the LAW.

There is a felon in the WH. When will George Bush Jr. take responsbility for rooting him out? It's been two months already. If the president* protects a felon in the WH, does that make him an accessory to the crime? If the traitor who revealed the ID of an undercover agent continues to serve in the WH, does he then continue to have access to classified information? What's to prevent him from leaking again, as Robert Novak just did, again, WRT Mrs. Wilson's CIA front company.

I have to admit I have a big crush on Joseph Wilson. He's an American Hero.

Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 11:09 PM by Cush
Guy 1) they all pass, its just that someone was outed here and that the government turned against her.

Guy 2) Hope there's a lasting impact, so it never happens again. Its way too important to be a passing scandal

Larry Johnson: Depends on Bush, he has to call off the partisan dogs. They aren't doing that. They say they support the investigation, but they are using partisan attacls. That will bring more of us out, we aren't going anywhere.

Guy 3) This could hurt recuiting

Jane Doe: Recuiting will be hurt and people could suffer.

The Bush administration tried to blame him regarding the yellow cake Niger thing but it didn't work. He had the facts on his side. Now we know why Bush* stood by Tenet. Tenet had the goods on this corrupt administration!

Man! I sure hope Tom Clancy is taking notes on all this!!

98. Chicken Dick as the man behind the curtain? Yep, I think so too,
but I don't think he has an Agnew-esque future to look forward to. The Corporitist do not really understand the concept of real loyality. Maybe it is not in their DNA. They are also missing the honor gene and the courage gene.

It seems some rather decent chaps in the agancy are trying very hard to get the executive branch to understand that there are rules of engagement and they had best not scrap them. The Corportists are not going to like the game if the rules get tossed by both sides. Keep wasting the footsoldiers and pretty soon, you have to do your own fighting. Chicken Dick up to getting down and dirty mano-a-mano? There is no hell bad enough for Dick.

The body count for the Military? The civilian body count? Just so his masters can steal, excuse me, win contracts from the treasury? Betraying those who serve at so many levels? Crushing an operation which did real work in the fight against real terrorism? How many more Osamas in the future now? US treasury robbed for generations? US infastructure, education of the children, empolyment for tens of thousands? Lots of things to answer for. Lots of blood to wash.

Someone has to be punished for this. Someone has to go to jail. A precedent must be set.

From the sound of the five on the show, I don't think it matters if it is Rove, Cheney or even Bush himself, whoever it was should go to jail.

I really liked how Jane Doe was so completely concealed... although it was kind of creepy. Normally, when a person on tv doesn't want to be identified they're just darkened out but you can still see whether it's a man or a woman, how fat or thin they are, the hair style, etc. The fact that Jane Doe was actually CLOAKED concealing EVERY aspect of identity sends a strong message as to just how deadly important "undercover" is.

These guys made it pretty clear they are not going to stand for this. They are Republicans that voted for bush, that are behind Wilson 100%, and that consider outing Plame an egregious and outrageous offense that they WILL NOT tolerate.

They want bush to deal with the traitors in his White House and call the dogs OFF of Wilson, stop bullying Wilson, or more of them are going to come out and fight this.

These guys are not messin around.

Don't ratfuck the CIA. You'll be sorry.

Larry Johnson said it too at the end. He talked about what Bush should do, then said, but he hasn't done it.

They are acting like bank robbers who realize the bank is surrounded and they will never get out alive, but still can't bring themselves to give up. Scarry. I hope they don't decide to "go out in a blaze of glory".

64. Now a bright line has been drawn in the sand.
History is noting which pols and press will migrate to which side of the line.

In Watergate, a lesser set of offenses, there was finally only one, feebly cheering from the dark side of the line, the Senator from Florida on the Select Committee who read his final apologia from his high seat, and then shuffled out the back door into history's sewer.

Which side are you on, press and pols? Do you even remember how to stand up? If you need help, try to find out what Eliot Richardson had for breakfast that Saturday. Champions are what your country needs.

I think the show was excellent... but of course, on so late that most people just won't see it. The most telling fact was that ALL were identified as republicans who had voted for Bush....totally dispelling any notion that this was a partisan attack on the administration.

These guys and the gal who was in disguise (still under cover) should be shown on a prime time show on CNN. Won't happen.

I'll subscribe, but I try to watch Nightline anyway. Do you or anyone else know if Nightline posts transcripts? This is one I'd like to read and keep. I wish I had it on tape.

This interview is historical.

If I were in the Bush* administration, I'd be a bit nervous about pissing off the CIA. These are the people who who have the ways and means to make or break Bush* and leave no trail. They've taken a lot of shit from this administration, but that pales next to outing an agent and endangering many, many lives around this globe of ours.

77. Jeez-excellent show!!!
These men and the blacked-out lady were terrific. Put it to them really good. Two things I want to add-did anyone hear the report on NPR that said the White House asked to have 24 hours before they were given the DOJ letter? Nina Tottenville apparently filed the report. But if you go to the NPR site for the transcript, the paragraph with the "wait 24 hours" info has been deleted. And, on the John and Paul show (on WABC AM in NYC), John Loftus was on and he said that Scooter Libby and Cheney were behind this. He said that Novak called Rove to ask about it after he talked to Libby and was told by Rove that Wilson's wife "was fair game". He said this isn't just illegal, it is treason. So, why do I geet the sinking feeling that it will drop out of sight soon? Am I wrong? (If all this stuff was already posted, just disregard it. I just got on here and I haven't had a chance to read anything yet.)

The dem leadership needs to make a deal with these people to put the leakers behind bars in exchange for off-the-record CIA people delivering the goods on which members of the Texas Idiot Party have problems that the people really care about. Problems such as gambling addictions, extramartial affairs, drug habits, or atypical sexual preferances. The people don't care about issues, but exposing high-ranking members of the administration as gay would have a strongly negative effect on the Texas Idiot's chances of election.

There are a lot of very capable and very pisssed off people here and the leading dem candidates would be stupid not to try and put them to use.

103. Nightline transcripts
A company called Transcripts.TV, a service of The Transcription Company (http://www.transcripts.net/) is the exclusive provider of Nightline transcripts. Written transcripts are $14.95 and they seem to have every day available, although last night's isnt' listed yet. I would check again on Monday.

Link: http://www.transcripts.tv/nightline.cfm

I taped it and just watched it again when I woke up (guess I wasn't dreaming). I wouldn't mind transcribing it myself and would be happy to share copies via e-mail. I don't think I would be breaking any laws as long as it was for free between friends - and we are all friends here.
