on C-Span right now... It is covered under Civic Involvement!
It is the Christian Coalition.

The woman that talked first referred to Secular fundamentalists trying to lie about this country not being a Christian country, yadayadayada.....

Representative Walter Jones from N.C. - He talked about HR325 - Houses of Worship freedom of speech restoration act!!!!!
Preachers will be able to talk about politics in church and not have their tax exempt status removed...

Henry Brown Jr. of S.C. ban on child pornography. We must trust God!

Puke... gag... so this is getting through the back door while we are worried about jobs and other stuff....

1. This passes and you'll see alot of "churches" opening up.
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 01:54 PM by w4rma
Maybe we should let it pass and reregister alot of organizations as "churches". Then, they'll be begging to put it back the way it was.

9. Use the correct term!!!
I prefer "American Falangists" or "Evangelical Falangists"

See http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/franco.htm

Quoting:

"Criticism is regarded as treason, political parties are outlawed, universal suffrage is eliminated, and the Catholic Church is restored as the official religion of Spain."

fundamentalism is a bad thing.

7. I'll remember that when I'm in church this weekend...
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 02:20 PM by LanternWaste
I'll try to remember I'm a secular fundamentalist when I'm attending church services Sunday morning.

About ten years ago, my pastor made a comment to the effect of,
"If you hear a politician invoking religion, walk away. If you hear a man of the cloth invoking politics, RUN away!"

I don't think anyone in my congregation knows his political affiliation and we're all pretty happy with it that way.

Ed. for spelling

10. Ban on Child Pornography?
Isn't that already illegal?

I remember a quote from the first episode of "The West Wing" in which Bartlett (Martin Sheen) cofronts the show's quivalent of the Christian Coilition:

Coilition guy: Mr. President, when in the name of the freedom of speech our children can go to any streat corner and get pornography for five dollars, isn't that too high a price to pay?

Bartlett: No.

Coilition Guy: (stunned) No?

Bartlett: On the other hand, I feel that five bucks is too high a price to pay for street corner pornography.

:)

15. Since when is secular a bad word?
I was brought up believing in the separation of church and state and the French equivalent of secular (laique) always had a positive connotation for me, even when I was a Republican.

These morons need to wake up and understand that just because the founding fathers were Christian doesn't mean that their ideals at the time were conservative in terms of religion. The arguments that Bill O'Reilly makes are like as if I said that slavery is OK because Thomas Jefferson (a Deist, not a Christian) had slaves (he had moderate views on slavery at the time). It's absurd.
