California REcall: an attempt at a REpeat of 2000
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 05:24 PM by newsguyatl
ok, so i'm reading 'fortunate son' right now, and there's a section of the book that talks about 'the bush plan' both in terms of his winning re-election in the texas governorship race in '98 and his then upcoming presidential bid (the two were basically going hand in hand)... ANYway, a MAJOR vein of the bush plan for the presidency was for JEB to win the florida governorship (tons of oil and texas money poured into florida for jeb), so they'd have those votes in 2000 for shrub... this is EXACTLY what they're doing now in california, EXACTLY!!!

i just had a knot in my stomach reading it last night as i was going to bed. we've got to stop this in california! what's going to happen if davis is recalled? if a republican governor gets in there who's in with the bush cabal, we're fucked folks...

i'm really worried about this... i don't feel like democrats are doing enough to fight it and expose it for what it really is... and, sadly, i feel like it's gonna be a case of too little too late for us...

1. i'm sorry but there is a difference
what the Republicans are attempting may be wrong, but it is legal, unlike the Florida coup.

2. well
with THAT argument, i could say that jeb running for governor of florida was "legal" too... that's not my point... my point IS that this is a well-thought out plan by the rove machine to get bush elected in 2004... the republicans don't give a rat's ass about the 'well-being' of california, hell ALL the states are broke... they're chasing after this for one reason and one reason only -- to get a bush crony in the california governorship

5. Recall is in the California constitution
whether the aim of using it is worthy or not, it is legal

3. Replacing Davis with a repuke isn't necessarily going to help *
In fact, some Repukes are against the recall on the grounds that their priority should be helping * win Cali rather than trying to recall Davis. It seems to me that * stands a better chance of winning Cali with a hugely unpopular Dem (i.e., Davis) in office than he would with an unpopular Repuke in the governor's mansion (and whoever replaces Davis will likely be equally unpopular). The recall may end up being a Phyrric victory for the repukes, assuming they succeed.

4. Again: Camejo 2003
When you go to the ballot box on the Special Recall Election Day check:

+ ----------------------------------------------- +
RECALL GRAY DAVIS? < > YES NO

IF GRAY DAVIS IS RECALLED, WHO DO YOU WISH
TO REPLACE HIM?

CAMEJO (G)
< > ISSA (R)
< > SIMON (R)
< > SCHWARTZENEGER (R)
< > THOMAS (L)

+ ------------------------------------------------+

And tell everyone you will. Make it a threat! Make it clear that a YES vote for recall means a vote for the Green Party - it's ANYBODY BUT THE GOP!

The GOP wants to use the recall to stage a Weimar Republic-like coup of California Republic. They think they can put a minority party into the statehouse and that the only minority party is the GOP. If they come to understand that the minority party that will win is their worst nightmare, they'll back off.

If they don't, that's fine. The GOP will go into 2004 with one more shiner - a failed coup in California.
