Proof that Bush's plan is NOT to create jobs
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 10:33 AM by AWD
Bush came to Canton, Ohio (I was there to protest), and he showed up at the Timken Company to use it as a "model for America's economy". While there, he pushed for a tax cut (of course) and tried to show how it would help America's families.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/04/20030424-3.html

Timken is a dividend-paying company. I say it's a dividend-paying company, after all, Timken has paid a dividend for the last 324 consecutive quarters. (Applause.) That's a solid record. It says to me the people who run Timken care a lot about their shareholders and the employees

<snip>

If getting rid of the double-taxation of dividends increases the markets, it will be good for millions of investors all across America. It will be good for our economy. And it will reduce the cost of capital, which means companies like Timken have got a better capacity to expand, which means jobs.

900 to lose jobs at Timken Co.

Friday, September 19, 2003
By EDD PRITCHARD Repository staff writer
CANTON — Timken Co. will cut 900 jobs and apparently has dismissed a top executive as part of a plan to cope with falling automotive industry sales.

Jobs will be eliminated throughout the company’s global operations, with 700 of them being slashed in the automotive business.

Timken announced the moves Thursday — after the New York Stock Exchange closed — in a release telling investors the company would lower its earnings projections for the third quarter and the year.

Spokeswoman Denise Bowler said most of the cuts will be manufacturing jobs, but added the company hasn’t pinpointed what facilities might be hit. It also hasn’t determined if cuts will be made through layoffs, buyouts or attrition.

2. Figures lie, liars figure?
57K new jobs. More than 1000 per state. Is the defense industry that huge? What else could be expanding?

3. His going to the Timken factory was about as big a joke...
AWD--As his going to the plant in St. Louis with the boxes printed "Made in China" on them behind him!

And as BAD a joke, to boot. x(

Dub lives in his own fantasy world. To him, we are actually in some sort of economic "recovery", even though so many sectors of it continue to bleed jobs. And consumer confidence is falling. And his OPEC buddies are raising oil prices. Hey, Rupert Murdoch, whatever happened to all that "$20/barrel oil" you said we'd see flowing from Iraq by fall?

Every time Dub opens his mouth, he's a walking advertisement for his own defeat next year. Hmmm...given that, AWD, maybe you all SHOULD invite him to come back to Canton more often! :eyes:

JEFF FOR CONGRESS!:kick:

6. Only way they can maintain dividends
The repug faithful will never figure this shit out. But if the person you look towards for truth and guidance is a drug-crazed racist.

:silly:
