CBS Evening news
had a clip of a mild, calm spoken Mayor Nagin. He said he was very disappointed in the gov't response, then added it was the public outrage and demand for action (to the lack of action by govt) that made the rescue efforts start to happen.

that's not a direct quote, just my paraphrase.

the one direct quote i will post here: the NG soldier there describing the conditions at either the Dome or Convention Center, and to the scene in general .....

"It wasn't as bad in Baghdad"

remember that.

2. Well, a plan to get in...not get out. And now it's a plan to not get in
but, rather, stay away.

4. The public outrage and demand for action
made the rescue efforts happen. Man, that should scare the crap out of all of us. This is the neo-conservative world view in action: You are on your own, sucker.

5. I don't know if they show pictures on US TVs
but the ones I saw shown and shot by French TV made a garbage dump in Rio de Janeiro look like the Hilton compared to the Convention Center...

it was unfuckingbelievable...

and in the middle of everything babies, disabled patients, corpses...

brown is the dominating color...

6. Soldiers in Bagdhad do have a plan...
...on the squad/company level. I have no doubt that the soldiers are very well organized and know what needs done in their particular area. However, soldiers don't win wars, they just win battles. Generals and policy makers win or lose wars. That's why we're losing.
