How do they know the folks at the Superdome & Conv Ctr are poor?
After 5-6 days of no food and water and wading through floods, people with a million dollar home and homeless people look alike. Of course they are all about in the same boat now unless it was banked and not in their property. I am sure not every person of means evacuated. A lot of those people might have wanted to stay to protect what they had and when things got so bad they had no choice but to go to the Superdome or Convention Center. Every time I watch the news people still in the city seem to be described as the poor who could not afford to evacuate. Maybe they are just considered poor because they are mostly black. Maybe the word has not gotten out that black people can be monied too. This has just opened up so many issues...

4. Some may be tourists and parents bringing their kids to college.
The majority may be poor, but I'm betting there are many different income and educational levels represented by those stranded in New Orleans and those locked into the Convention Center.

"Some tourists in the Monteleone Hotel paid $25,000 for 10 buses. The buses were sent (I guess there were many buses available, if you paid the price!) but the military confiscated them (!) and would not let the people leave. Instead, the military ordered them to the now-infamous Convention Center.
