My talk with a Republican this morning.....

Met Terri while walking the dog. I know that she and her husband at least supported Bush--sign in the window and signs in other recent local elections for Republicans.

She said she was very tired, had a stressful week. I found out for the first time she works in the Dept of Human Resources, Income Support. She said that Las Cruces may be taking in some "refugees"--probably will put them up at the Pan Am Center (another goddamn arena). One thing led to another, and I pulled no punches about how angry I was.

Shepherd Smith apparently is reaching the FOX crowd, because she repeated his name over and over. The last thing she said as we parted was that "He says that some people are being treated differently!! Then she mused as she walked away..."This country... I don't know."

Now, I open up the paper and see that Gov. Richardson offered help that was held up by Washington. As much as I fuss about Richardson, he did the right thing..

One good thing--if Las Cruces hosts some of our suffering citizens, at least I can do something to help out in a direct way...I'm sure our local Peace and Justice Center will be busy!!

4. Yes, the Pan Am Center is on the NMSU campus and no, I don't

know if ABQ is involved at all. We don't even know if the Pan Am thing is certain or if it is even definite about having any people come here...
