Google images - No hurricane results.
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 05:30 AM by KnaveRupe
This is seriously scary.

Try Googling the following:

New+Orleans+Flood
"Hurricane Katrina"+"New Orleans"
New+Orleans+victims
Katrina+victims
New+Orleans+dead

or various other combinations thereof, and hit the Google images button.

Nothing.

Nada.

Or, more precisely, nothing remotely related to this week's horrorshow.

I KNOW there are hundreds of images out there of this disaster - why can't I Google a single one?

Is anyone else able to get any results? Am I just missing something here? Or has someone wiped all photographic traces of this disaster from the Database at Google Images?!

edited to remove unnecessarily paranoid subject line... sorry! Scary week.

1. Click on News
Google images just searches other websites for photos.

4. I know.
And there are a lot of websites out there with photos of the disaster.

But I was looking for a selection of images all in one place to choose from, and the screenshot above was what I got.

I saw news results, and I saw regular web results, and neither of those were what I was looking for.

You don't find it odd that Google images doesn't return a SINGLE result for "hurricane katrina" + "new orleans"?

3. I doubt you're going to find much there...
... simply because most of the photos are from wire services, and Google's policy toward those is probably to respect copyrights.

If you do a Google web search for "Katrina" and "damage" and "photos," there are lots of hits.

Cheers.

5. Keep Your Shirt on, Son.
Google Images takes longer to register images. When you say "scrubbed" that implies that they were once there and are now not, but by reading your text, it is obvious that they have not been removed, they simply haven't arrived yet.

A little less hysteria, please.

6. .
This is true, google images is about 8 months behind last I heard. There was a story on slashdot about it awhile back.
