Dallas Police Chief slams refugees headed towards Dallas: "violent"
That son of a bitch.........

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/katrina/stories/090305dnmetkatchaos.1cccdfd6.html

Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle said, "We're hoping for the best and preparing for the worst," about the security situation caused by thousands of beleaguered people flocking downtown. "We don't know what kinds of populations we'll be getting on the buses. New Orleans has historically been a violent city. But we will keep the residents of Dallas safe."

---------------------------------
Given Dallas' recent history of increased crime stats, this guy has NO FUCKING BUSINESS making any comments about the refugees heading towards Dallas or their city.

Chief of Police
David Kunkle

Dallas Police Department
1400 S. Lamar
Dallas, TX 75215
Phone: (214) 671-3730

8. Where are they going to put these people in Dallas?
I was in Dallas 4 years ago for a convention and stayed at the Wyndham Anatole on the highway. Loved the city, but I just can't imagine where they could put thousands of people.

10. Reunion Arena and then part of the convention center.
Those are in Dallas proper.

Also listed in the local paper:

A Baptist camp up in Denton has been named as an emergency shelter by FEMA, Denton has also set up some of their jail barracks for women and children...Plano may take 2,000 in some sort of shelter.

Some shelters are over in Ft Worth.

Living in Plano, I've seen at least 3 places that could be converted..2 large deserted grocery store buildings and an empty Ultimate Electronic dept. store. But they may be thinking of other places.

My daughter's high school teacher told the kids to possibly expect some of the refugee children to be enrolled in the next 2 weeks.

11. Thanks, was only there for a week but
I did start to get a feel for the lay of the land. I know where the convention center is and hadn't thought of that though I was there several times. But since Dallas is so spread out I would imagine only a local would know about all these places.

3. fellow Texas from other thread: wanna slam me now?`
I had the temerity to mention that NOT ALL Texans were "welcoming" and pure of heart but were the same mix of types we had yesterday and will have next year----well, lookee here! The Dallas PD Chief says outloud and politely what neighbors and coworkers of mine have said quietly all day!

Guess I better not mention James Byrd or Tulia, eh?

9. nah, Aunt Patsy, we are makin' it all up!
Seriously, I didn't know if I wanted to slap one of the admin people near my office or Bush today---both at once if I could have---for their stupidity and cruelty.

Yep, I got a lot of sad, sad "Christian" (and the quotes are because it ain't a Christianity *I* recognize from anywhere) who feel "real bad, but...."

I spent the evening getting diapers and formula for the Salvation Army here and figuring out how big a check I could write and still have my household eat this month. That helped. And, when those AMERICANS arrive in my small city next week, I'm volunteering.

16. You know Perry would never have extended this offer
... if not for the up coming elections, too. That's not a sincere welcome coming from him. He just wanted to try and look like a hero and get some extra brownie points with bush in the process.

I had hoped he would slap the local officials into line with threats of funding cuts, but I guess that's something else he overlooked.

5. They haven't even gotten in town yet

and he's go them pigeon-holed and stereotyped. I thought they did away with racial profiling. Well, maybe the modern law enforcement agencies did anyway.

6. No prejudice here is there. New Orleans is known for it's violence?
So is Miami, DC, NY. Let's see, they've just been wiped out of everything they own, probably including those guns and knives. Else they would have been able to blast their way through the roofs. Maybe they traded some of that food and water they got for guns. They're hiding the knives in the babies diapers.

I'm not sure I can take anymore shitty comments like this.

13. Put Dallas at the top of your crime list..
Cuz it was not long ago that the papers said that we are one of the highest crime ridden city in the US for our size...which is what really, really pisses me off about his comment. He **knows** what the crime stats are under his watch. This is NOT exactly Mayberry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas#Crime

The crime rate in Dallas has been ranked second in the country for large cities from 1998 to 2003. Most of the cities nieghborhoods are relatively immune to the more violent crimes which tend to be concentrated within a few blocks of major expressways and around garden-style apartment complexes. Dallas' crime rate has been ranked 1st from 1998-2004. In '95, there were a record 280 murders. Now, Dallas usually averages 230-235 slayings a year.

18. I thought I remembered hearing that a while back.
I must not have saved the article and all I could find was how Dallas was one of the major illegal drug trafficking hubs in the state.

Sounds like the Police Chief is a big fat hypocrite.

17. And so is Baghdad...
But that doesn't stop the National Guards and military personel from dodging bombs and bullets. As a matter of fact, many of them don't even have proper armor to protect themselves. People die over there every day.

20. And if these are his *public* remarks...
Imagine what he is telling his troops privately. With his spewing hateful justification, they may be going down there with a "shoot first, ask questions later policy"...authorized by Kunkle himself,

Clean up your own crime before you cast stones at other cities you asshat!

19. Some statistics from the FBI that ought to be rammed down Kunkle's throat
Uniform Crime Reports

==== Violent................Forcible................Aggravated...Property..............Larceny....Motor vehicle
==== crime......Murder.....rape......Robbery.....assault......crime.....Burglary..../theft..........theft..........Arson

NEW ORLEANS LA
2003: 4,596........274........213.......2,071.........2,038.......24,477.....4,879.....12,726..........6,872.........not available
2004: 4,468........265........189.......1,836.........2,178.......24,316.....5,238.....12,544..........6,534.........167

DALLAS TX
2003: 16,865.......226........601.......7,963.........8,075.......97,900....21,927.....58,554.........17,419.......1,301
2004: 16,165.......248........588.......7,466.........7,863.......94,066....23,126.....55,059.........15,881.......1,141

Dallas has 1.1 million people, New Orleans has 484,674 (greater New Orleans has an estimated 1.4 million; I don't know which population is being surveyed above.) IOW, Dallas quadruples New Orleans' violent crimes. That bastard Kunkle has nothing to squawk about.
