6. When I see it I think of the Jessica Lynch video

Where she was carried out clutching the flag as if it was a first request. "Quick! I must embrace the stars & stripes"

7. Neither Bush nor the GOP
own the U.S. flag. It's a statement that this tragic woman is one of our own and we let her down.

24. Exactly!!!!
I am SO sick of people acting like Bush owns the flag. If someone has a flag...it must mean they love Bush. Bullshit! I love the flag and hate Bush...so there!

10. That's exactly what I saw...
I think it's meant to be ironic. I see a woman living in this "great" country of ours and treated like shit. It broke my heart.

9. Please don't tell me...
when you see a flag the first thing you think is Bush! He's trying to sell that... PLEASE don't buy it! The flag was around long before him and (hopefully) will be around long after.

It is OUR flag... not any politician's past or present.

I see it as a negative on Bush... the government failed her, she only has OUR flag to keep her warm!!!

14. Absolutely not.
I agree with everyone here that it probably does send the exact opposite message it's trying to convey. And I honestly don't despise the flag for what it really means. I just know how these people like to use it.

And I do think that this woman was originally used as a photo-op to show that America has come to save the day (Just check out the title forthe news link: "Relief for New Orleans ") and obviously from posts here, that message backfired.

11. This photo sums up the travesty of this situation and the
government's lack of response in so many mays.

It is one of those photos I will never forget.

Since when have poor, Southern blacks been embraced by America and treated as American citizens?!?!?!?!?!

This photo is just the summation of the history of this continent.
