1. This is an incredibly powerful clip...
I must say... view this clip! This makes all other clips lose their impact. Say what you want about Geraldo, but this was damned powerful... that's all I can really say about it.

44. I was shaking watching it....
Both Shep and Geraldo were crying, disgusted, desperate...

That inhumane and heartless pig Hannity literally didn't care and kept to his talking points...Colmes is a plain idiot w/out a clue and no balls...

i was simply stunned...and most disturbing and surprising: That this was on Fox! Only reason it got airtime is because it was live and would have been too obvious or awkward if they had cut away...

Also - my jaw dropped when both Geraldo and Shep talked about how these people were not allowed to leave New Orleans....Shep said something I haven't seen anywhere mentioned and that was about "checkpoints" and not letting people leave the cesspool of human waste....this, this is serious shit my friends and fellow citizens...

36. Courtesy of TalkLeft

When a network like Fox can't prevent its reporters from speaking the truth, you have to know the situation is so much worse than we've been told. Geraldo was crying, Shep Smith looked like he wanted to drive a knife thorough Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes. How frustrating for them to watch reality get trumped by spinned photos of supply-laden ships arriving. The reality is that 12 hours after those ships arrived, nothing has changed for those in lock-down at the convention center or exiled on a highway.

Geraldo, Shep Smith and CNN's Anderson Cooper are heroes. Tell their networks. We need unfiltered news. We need the truth. And they are telling it.

Shepherd Smith is fucking pissed.

I can't believe this was on FOX. Hannity is shilling as always, but they take him to task.

My question - how could any human being look at that and be as callous sounding and defensive as people like Hannity are? Inhuman.... inhuman.

8. Incredible wasn't it?
Fucker sat there in his $1000 suit in a nice clean studio with a green room full of food and dared question the guys who were in the shit. Not only did Rivera and Smith show their humanity the did it knowing full well they were throwing Fox policy out the window. I may go back to hating them later but for now those guys are real journalists again. Thank god.

is from the area. Attended school at Olemiss which is about 4 hrs away, and is often known as the "Little Easy".

Most likely he has friends if not relatives who lost homes or died in this clusterfuck.

While I always found him to be kinda goofy, he never seemed quite as nasty as the others on the station.

I particularly remember taking on some racist (I think it might have been Matthew Hale of the World Church racist organization) and he tore him apart.

I tried watching the clip but unfortunately the server seems down (likely a lot of traffic). I think those that have been on the ground there are finding it nearly impossible to be apologetic in any way for this administration or the recovery non effort. I'm guessing that seeing starving children, dead bodies, and greif stricken people who are recieving no assistance whatsoever from their government will generally do that to a person...

And they probably also realize how horrific and inexcusable it is to have somthing like this happening on US SOIL!

Shepard Smith... what can I say? He's one of the most despicable news personalites out there, but since being in New Orleans, the humanity in him has been forced out. While this may be temporary, I'm glad he's become a voice of reason in all of this.

34. I don't know how despicable Shepard Smith is
Until this week, I've never watched FOX. But I am a former journalist myself and I have to say I've been very impressed by Smith's coverage from New Orleans this week.
FOX, as a whole, has been far ahead of CNN in its reportage. CNN (excepting Aaron Brown) has been completely useless.
And I intend to send Shepard Smith a personal, hand-written note telling him exactly that. Maybe he and I can't be friends (maybe we wouldn't want to be), but he's been above-and-beyond in his work this week. He deserves a thumbs-up for doing his job and doing it very well.
John
And, yeah -- Sean Hannity is useless as tits on a boar hog. Some things never change, but rearranging his fat ugly face would be a great place to attempt a start.

Wow.

OK, two words:

Fucking wow.

I never thought I'd ever see Geraldo Rivera playing Moses and begging for these people to be let go.

But locking them in the Superdome for a week after promising them help within can't help but invite comparisons to the showers at Auschwitz, which is metaphorically where the fucking sociopaths of the GOP have been herding us for the past year.

for all the clean up trouble. (and maybe this was taped from last night) he was going through a laundry list of the local government saying "the mayor is black, all the local government is black, the governor is a white woman, and they have done a horrible job so far until the feds came in"

he had to get his spin in.

what may be even worse than what's going on in NO is that the truth about what is going on is actually getting out there (on fox no less)and there isn't a mass outrage yet. I would think the mob would be tearing down the WH walls by now. Of course I would never advocate that but I'm suprised the people haven't "stormed the Bastile" yet. There's only so far you can push people before they won't be afraid of a gun anymore in seeking revenge or justice.

Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 11:02 AM by littleraf
And it's no surprise to see Sean Hannity, the neocon Bush-apologist shamelessly defend the indefensible. The more pukes like Hannity and O'Reilly try to whitewash this disgrace the worse they make it. It makes it appear like exactly what it is: the right-wing is more concerned with nobdoy blaming them for anything that with actually doing anything. The whole nation watched for four days, agonizing hour after hour as the media accouted for a city sinking into hell, and the right-wing sat on their hands and made excuses for Bush's inaction. They went too far this time. You can't spin this one.
BTW Kanye West was dynamite. Ted Koppell quoted him on Nightline last night.

56. It's incredible!
When I first heard about this yesterday, I admit I was skeptical knowing Rivera's reputation for theater.

But after seeing it there can be no mistake the feeling is real and that's what makes it so disturbing.

To see Vannity continue to sit there with his usual smug look trying to spin this into some sort of Spockian "perspective" was unreal.
Not only did he repeat this line several times in an attempt to appear all intellectually logical, but even after are this raw emotion from the reporters, the best he can manage is the same lame "Our thoughts and prayers are with you" quickly mumbled like a disclaimer in a car dealer commercial.

Vannity is a despicable waste of breath.

Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 03:06 PM by Oeditpus Rex
I'm near tears. I'm shaking. I'm angry. I'm GOD DAMNED ANGRY!

How could it come to this?

America is without peer when it comes to flexing military muscle, but I wonder — how long can that last when it doesn't have enough heart to supply blood to the muscles?

Geraldo... Shep... if you somehow manage to read any of this or hear about it, thank you. Thank you for doing the right thing.

And I never thought I'd say this, but kudos to Fox. (That's the first time I haven't spelled it "Faux" in five years.)

But FUCK Sean Hannity.

(Some things just can't be changed.)
