I heard NOLA Mayor Ray Nagin make this point today. NOLA is special and in the hearts of many. I'm pissed, you're pissed, and people all over the country are simply furious a) because no people deserve this mis treatment and b) those of us who dearly love this city are realizing that it will be a long time.

4. It's a shame you've never been to New Orleans because it's a

very special place; the only place like it in the US. But you will get a chance to go because we're all going to see that it is rebuilt before Bagdad is rebuilt, and if we have to throw out everybody in Wash DC to do it, so be it. New Orleans will rise again, I have faith in that.

just don't appreciate how much the people who live there or have lived there love the place. I never feel like I'm truly at home until I cross the Causeway exit on I-10. Then I know I'm headed to New Orleans proper and life is good.

..and wind damage from what I heard. The big problem right now is the damage caused by looters.

The only way I can describe NOLA is this:

There are only a few places that i have evr been, and I have traveled a lot, and New Orleans is one of those places that always strikes up that 'feeling' when i think about it and when I am there.

I don't know if any of you know what I mean by that 'feeling', but that is the only way I can describe it. very few places conjure up the feeling in my soul like NOLA does...New York, ironically is another one...they are very special places, not common I guess would be another way to describe how I feel about it...

Anyone know what I mean?...or am I just wacky? :silly:

..there are three definitive cities in America: New York, New Orleans and San Francisco. This isn't meant as a slight to anyone else's home town, but there's something about New Orleans, like you said, that defies description. I am heartbroken to see it fall under such dire circumstances.

...wind damage from what I can see, but it is Flooded. Now Long Beach Mississippi IS Gone!

22. I'm in Texas and we are

receiving an influx of refugees. One of my friends works at a grocery store. When I spoke to her a couple of days ago, she had seen a lot of NOLA people through her line that day. She was devastated and kept telling me it was GONE! I kept asking her, you mean Gone, as in forever? Maybe her vibes have influenced my reaction a little. Like I said, I rarely watch tv .. use the internet.

But it does appear that NOLA, as we know her is, okay let's say temporarily out of commission. She can revive. The Gulf will be a total disaster for decades, from what I've read. Another friend of mine used to be a cook on an offshore. She has an elaborate plan to determine toxic waste, which I do not understand, but I trust she knows what she's talking about.

I may be a little hyped up and thanks to you all for your reassurance. This doesn't have to be a national 'panic' situation does it? Just get the relief in there! Even though when I bought gas this morning, the worker told me he has been calling for refills and none are coming yet.

I think we absolutely must start pumping positive vibes into this situation. Thanks. I'm usually the calm one in any crisis. Just not this time.
