the final planning stages and that is why the administration was caught flatfooted.
There really is something sinister about this whole situation.
Maybe I'm losing it?

15. A nuisance
That's EXACTLY what it has looked like to me from the beginning: that Bush was treating the hurricane as a faraway nuisance.

I said the same thing last night. They had something all ready to go, and now it would be difficult, at the very least, to carry on with Plan A.

21. Vacation, poll numbers... exactly
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 09:39 AM by tinrobot
Before he even left for Crawford, a lot of people on DU were talking about that. It was way too similar to Aug 2001. A lot of us had a sick feeling in our stomach that something awful would happen while he was on vacation.

Who knew the awful thing would be the deaths of thousands due to their sheer incompetence.

11. they were planning another MIHOP
the bushturd's ratings are essentially zero (the insane RW core of 25% or so notwithstanding)

all their theft scams--Iraq, social security, etc.--are in shambles

they were definitely planning another MIHOP like 9-11 prior to the 2006 elections and this caught them by surprise. They did not want to commit any resources either because they needed them for an Operation Northwoods plan or because they needed them unable to respond to the new MIHOP.

These criminal bastards need to be brought to justice.

23. But...why would they stop now?
From reports in New Orleans, I'm starting to get the impression that the troops remaining in the U.S. are hardcore neocon tools, rather than the compassionate sort who would treat Americans like Americans.

12. Nope, you're not losing it
I happen to think that's why the govt was so slow to act -- they were holding back their manpower and supplies for something else they had already planned for us. Thing is, they didn't plan for Katrina.

Can you?
How much incompetence does one see before someone finally says "step aside".

Did you see this?

17. Why didn't/aren't they deploying our vast resources to address this,...
,...massive disaster? I simply can NOT accept that this situation is merely incompetence. No freakin' way!!! All the information pertaining to this type of disaster was at their disposal. All the resources necessary to address this emergency is at their gaddamn finger tips.

There is certainly SOMETHING amiss. Maybe, they just do not give a damn about saving NO or her people or all those other people who have also been abandoned. If that's the case, they are guilty of criminal negligence, at least.

This is simply INSANE!!!!

20. Perhaps Katrina was the September Surprise
Think about it.

We are all expecting another MIHOP. Then this "natural" disaster happens and the US is on the verge of a actually losing a major city. This weekend Bush rides into town, gives some rip-roaring speeches and his poll numbers shoot up. And all the other stuff going on is conveniently ignored.

22. Possible but unlikely it will happen anytime soon.
Like 9/11, sympathy and help are coming in from around the world. We would be pounced upon for attacking and invading another country while hundreds of thousands of our own citizens are incrementally dying by the hour. I'm talking about military intervention from allies in defense of Syria and/or Iraq, let alone China and Russia.
