Hey Rightwingers, Comparing Katrina to 9/11 Is Illogical And Moronic
I've been hearing the rightwing lament that if only Rudy Giuliani had been in charge of New Orleans, somehow miraculously everything would have gone smoothly. Witness how he handled NYC on 9/11, they say!

Which, of course, is an utterly bogus comparison. The damage in NYC was confined to ONE small part of town, literally five square blocks or so. The rest of the city was wholly intact, it's police and fire forces able to move freely about town.

New Orleans is 80% under water, in some places up to 6-8 feet. There is no communications system whatsoever in the city. The police and firemen have no easy mobility to get anywhere. Virtually the entire city is damaged or inaccessible. There is no easy way to stop looters or organize systematic rescue efforts when you have no way of communicating with your fellow rescuers.

Comparing Katrina to 9/11 is illogical and moronic. But what do you expect of people who vote for a leader who has those qualities in spades?

1. Comparing Katrina to 9/11 is like
comparing an eruption of Yellowstone to the Oklahoma city bombing.

2. It would be different.
Giuliani would be on tv begging for water.

3. there is no comparison
New Orleans is utterly destroyed. Most of the emergency personnel, ambulances, police stations are underwater. There is no power. Thousands upon thousands are without homes.

New York still had an infastructure and emergency units to command---there is utter chaos in New Orleans and no mayor could deal with this situation without alot of state and Federal help

4. Of course
But that won't stop rightwingers from using the comparison on tv to try to score political points.

And it'll be interesting to see which media talking heads let the comparison slide and which take issue with it.

7. and FEMA was there with bells on
Night before even, imagine that.

And the government was all mobilized, addressing the nation and singing in front of congress.

Shit. This time, Cheney is STILL ON VACATION, Rice is SHOPPING IN NYC and King George was eating cake and strumming a guitar until over two days after this happened.

Can you even imagine how people would have reacted if they had responded to 9/11 like this? To beat it all, THEY KNEW KATRINA WAS COMING!!
