suggestions for gas prices

bush* was quick to shove through the patriot act after 9-11. He chomps at the bit when he wants some legislation passed. He makes executive appointments when he feels congress moves to slow.

when he wants action and he wants it now - more often than not resorting to executive actions and or arm twisting to get it...

but with Katrina and the resulting gas crunch -- he just slaps on a pair of rose-colored glasses and puts on a "happy face"

he is also quick to "recycle" the past in his speeches in order to justify and spin his actions...

so why hasn't he recycled the energy measures from the Carter Administration during the oil embargo?

a few things that could be done NOW:

-- immediate speed limit reduction to 55 miles an hour

-- limit gas purchases to "x" amount per person or limit gas purchases based on license plate numbers (odd/even days)

-- an honest investigation into gas price rigging

-- make a real longterm effort for alternative energy sources

things that could be done to encourage conservation locally:

-- businesses within the same area could arrange bus/van transportation for employees for a nominal fee (I'd pay $10 a week to ride a bus as opposed to $40 a week to fill my tank)

-- encourage businesses to go to a 10hour-4day work week (driving to work 4 days a week will use less gas than driving 5 days a week)

will he do any of this? doubt it. He'll probably just go for a bike ride
