Get ready to vomit.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050901/D8CBNMA88.html

Just last year, the Army Corps of Engineers sought $105 million for hurricane and flood programs in New Orleans. The White House slashed the request to about $40 million. Congress finally approved $42.2 million, less than half of the agency's request.

Yet the lawmakers and Bush agreed to a $286.4 billion pork-laden highway bill that included more than 6,000 pet projects for lawmakers. Congress spent money on dust control for Arkansas roads, a warehouse on the Erie Canal and a $231 million bridge to a small, uninhabited Alaskan island.

How could Washington spend $231 million on a bridge to nowhere - and not find $42 million for hurricane and flood projects in New Orleans? It's a matter of power and politics.

shame the shameless Senator for Alaska into diverting the funds for the useless bridge and road-to-nowhere that bears his name?

9. Indeed. Take a look at this article.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Inauguration/wireStory?id=412506

President Bush's second inauguration will cost tens of millions of dollars $40 million alone in private donations for the balls, parade and other invitation-only parties. With that kind of money, what could you buy?

Two hundred armored Humvees with the best armor for troops in Iraq.

Vaccinations and preventive health care for 22 million children in regions devastated by the tsunami.

A down payment on the nation's deficit, which hit a record-breaking $412 billion last year.

<snip>

I think they could easily insert levee funding in the article too.

12. The chimp is a lame duck who isn't going anywhere....
Bush is not going anywhere. He will be our president until January 2009.
We need to focus on the fact that because of the policies and decisions the Republicans have made, we have this disaster. It is the fault of all the Republicans who have stood by Bush.
Keep reminding everyone; Bush would not have done nearly as much damage to America if the Congress was not controlled by Republicans. It is the beliefs and actions of the Republicans that have caused the major problems we have in America. The deficit, the continued high rate of unemployment, Iraq, and the lack of health care for Americans are all because of Republican beliefs.

Anyone Remember the French Revolution from History ?... The Guillotine ? Only ours is going to be more like a rust saw that swings like a pendulum. Face up these vile pigs will watch as it slowly pulls the meat away from their throat. They’ll gasp for air and stay conscious long enough to feel plenty of pain.

And here's a thread with more sickening details about the huge amount of money going to useless porkbarrel projects in Alaska in the Transportation Bill.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2021361

You really must read the parts about the big GOP power in Alaska, Frank Murkowski, who appointed his own daughter Lisa Murkowski as Senator because he wanted to quit and run for governor. he is such an amazing piece of slime, no wonder he's such an administraion buddy.

Just a fraction of that money could have saved New Orleans and thousands of lives (at least) throughout the devasated area.
