Why is it a priority to stop looting rather than saving lives?
There are still people clinging to life in nooks and crannies all over the city and all I hear from so many is that they must stop looting. Sorry, but for this citizen of the USA, I wouldn't trade all of the plasma screens in the whole fucking South for any of those lives.

Shouldn't rescue be the top, number 1, all consuming priority right now?

2. Because material possesions are more important than people.
That is the conservative philosophy.

5. Exactly. It's "people first" vs. "property first"
Guess which one the "ownership society" favors.

3. Because they've got to stop people from shooting at the rescuers.

It's about stopping the violence, getting armed looters out of hospitals and nursing homes.

Read this article from NOLA about what the problems are.

6. Property is worth more than human lives in some peoples minds
...I think the code words are "maintain law and order", but the basic idea is that this whole situation can become explosive and BushCo with KKKarl Rove in the shadows can achieve considerable political capital gains the democrats if they play the various elements in the community off against one another. Since the entire area is flooded with salt water, can't maritime salvage rights laws be brought into play here? Something needs to be enforced to get the focus on saving lives and rescuing human beings in need.

9. The looting isn't the issue, really ........
it is more complicated than that. To be sure, some loon on a rooftop with a gun needs to be stopped. People stealing teevees .... ? Who gives a fuck? Peopple 'stealing' pampers ....... shoes ..... water ...... help them carry what they need!

But here's the complicated part.

idiot son and the RW nutjobs **need** an enemy. So they show 'looters'. They vilify the 'looters'. The sad fact, as I see it, is they don't want sympathy for the vicitms. That would pit idiot son against the vicitms ... and in that comparison, idiot son loses. So vilify the victims and save little king's ass.

It sucks ... but that's how I see it.

11. That's what I've thought too.
A human life is worth more than a few trinkets. Of course I'm a godless heathen though, cause I don't send Pat and Jerry any loot!

12. Spin, spin, distract, distract.
This is the worst disaster of this presidency yet, and the media needs to focus on some "evil" element so we aren't paying attention to the huge humanitarian crisis -- which we might just realize was created by lack of planning for what to do before a Cat 5, and how to properly run a recovery effort in the IMMEDIATE aftermath.

This is nothing but the cheap journalism we've come to know from the media. It is a distraction story to help keep * protected from blame.

13. All I've heard the past few days is "We must stop the looting!" not
"We must save our people!". I seriously hate, HATE this administration.

with rifles.
