My nephew is going to NO!
His Alabama Nat'l Guard unit has been mobilized. He thinks he leaves tomorrow. On Monday he told me that LA had enough guardsmen to handle it.

Right. What a clusterfuck in NO.

His unit will join the MPs.

1. Can we have reports?
Is that sort of thing allowed?

He could be a valuable voice "from the inside".

2. He said he doubts his cell phone will work there....
the towers are out. And, with no electricity, he won't be able to charge the phone.

15. Some phones are getting signals, I've heard interviews where
people who escaped talked with family in attics via cell phone.

7. He's a remarkable young man.
My sister said something about the LA guard in Iraq coming home. I haven't heard anything in the MSM about this.

5. The Feds cans send in MORE people, but not water and food for those ...
... already there. What kind of sense does it make that they can send in troops (who also need food and water), but they can't send water and food to the people who gathered at the Convention Center, like they were told to?

What did I hear -- THIRTY THOUSAND TROOPS? Insane. Insane. Insane.

6. My sister is beside herself with worry.
He's not going to Iraq, but I'm not sure which is worse. Snipers both places.

8. One of my Parents Employees Going from PA
A guy who works for my parents called them today. He just signed up for the Pennsylvania National Guard last month. :scared: Has has no training. :scared: Was supposed to go to boot camp next month. He has to report in the morning. He was told they are going to Fort Indian Town Gap long enough to pick up Rifles and Ammo and will be off to NOLA.

11. That's ridiculous!
My neph finished his training in May, then had a two week stint in July. How can they go with no training? What are they supposed to do, walk around in flak jackets attracting sniper fire? Sheesh.

10. 2,400 from Indiana are going...
Wait until a Repub asks me one of their favorite questions: Aren't we safer now?

"If we airlift some of the men we could get them there probably in 48 hours," said Maj. Gen. Martin Umbarger, the state's adjutant general. "We're talking more like 72 to 96 hours if we send them down on ground transport."

13. They're leaving tomorrow and it won't take them long to get there.
His unit is joining up with one from FLA and he may go to Mississippi rather than NO -- he doesn't know yet. Just enough time to kiss his wife and daughter goodbye.
