If a vice-president resigns, what happens? Does the President appoint someone? If so, does that person have to be approved by Congress? Or, would the position just go to the Speaker of the House?
3. Do you mean supermajority for passage or for a filibuster?
A simple majority passes the nomination, but it may need 60 votes to get to a vote (albeit if a president chooses someone that contentious as a potential successor you've got lots of other problems)
