Just called Henry Hyde's office
Yes, he's my congressperson. I called his local office and the woman on the phone could not articulate one single thing Henry Hyde or the Republicans have done over the past 4 days to assist the situation in New Orleans.

I managed to get in lots of ranting about how FEMA has been cut by the Republicans, managed to get in lots of ranting about how upset I was by the teevee coverage.

She was absolutely unable to answer ANY of my concerns except with the talking points which have obviously gone out:
"1. This is not a partisan issue. We should be standing together to help.
2. Did I see President Bush on teevee? He has a "masterful plan" and will be working hard to implement "the plan".
3. The liberal media (I am not fucking kidding, she used those very words) are not showing any of the good things happening. There are many, many more good things happening than bad things."

I finally ended the conversation with my demand to know exactly what Henry Hyde has done these past 4 days to mobilize Illinois support for this crisis.

She was silent and then thanked me for calling in the most sarcastic, dripping voice.

All of these Republican congresspersons need to be confronted with this question: What have you been doing? Did you know your Republican Admin was cutting funding that would have ameliorated this tragedy and what did you do to stop that?

I have smoke coming out my ears at this point!

1. Those talking points
sound like the GOP talking points for Iraq. They really do need to get back to Washington DC, so they can coordinate new talking points

2. I'm guessing Hyde couldn't answer because he was out having an affair
with someone's wife?
