Where Is The 101st Airborne? Where Is The 82nd Airborne?
Where is the 10th Mountain? Where are the Marine Expeditionary 'From The Sea Forward' units and ships? All of these have rapid deployment units, particularly the 82nd, that could have been on scene within 24 hrs.

These resources should have been spinning up Tuesday morning, while the issues of Posse Comitatus were worked out. One did not have to be a disaster management professional to know what we were seeing Tuesday morning on the cable 'news' channels was a disaster of epic proportions in the making.

You skip the 'tine'. You make decisions. You improvise. You get something done.

It is what we used to have a Military for, to protect and serve the citizens of the Republic. Not to start wars of choice to enhance political and economic prospects for those connected to the power structure.

The degradation of our nations ability to respond to disaster, as a result of GOP control over the last decade, is now painfully apparent.

Then again, what would you expect from people who do not believe in Government beyond how it can be manipulated to enrich themselves.

Guess the Legions are needed elsewhere to secure oil wealth.

Wake me when the cake air drops begin.

1. My nephew's in the 82nd Airborne.
They are getting ready to go to Iraq. Nice, huh? Still sending troops over while we have a HUGE crisis in this country.

3. Vague recollection
that the 82nd was sent to Iraq to 'guard prisons'....which in itself seemed unlikely.

It was thought on here at the time that they were more likely being readied to drop into Iran

7. There are three
sets (divisions? I don't know the military names) in the 82nd. One is in Iraq, one is in Afghanistan, and one is at Fort Bragg. At least that is how it was last year. They rotate them. My nephew, who is in the 82nd, is at Fort Bragg now.

8. No. We Need To Use The Airlift Capability For Rescue And Supply
We need the medics to treat people.

We need troops to keep order and provide manpower to help with recovery.
