Do Poor People Count In This Country?
I have see a lot of post that talk about how the poor were stuck in NO and how they are being treated. If this had been rich people, do you think their efforts would of been different?

I personally think they are letting these people die, it is just cheaper for the government if they do....

Someone please tell me I am wrong!

4. No, they don't count. MEpublicans don't need their votes now
that they have Diebold, and have have the ability to purge thousands of names at the drop of a hat from voters roles, and not bother to correct it for years later.

5. Most don't vote so Politicians see no need to aid them
It is all political. there is not one whit of human compassion in the entire Administration.

7. Absolutely not, and if they are people of color, even less so
to the elitists in charge. I remember all the mean things said about African Americans during the riots in Los Angeles, even though it would be proved later that the majority of the people living there were as much victims as were the white store owners.

To this day, in spite of heroic efforts by community leaders, like Maxine Waters, very little is done to help these communities solve their basic problems of poverty and lack of needed services.

I've been poor. Very poor. On welfare and worse poor. I've lived in housing projects. I've lived "bad" neighborhoods. (In fact, I still do, but I love the diversity where I live.) I knew damn well I didn't count. One of the reason I was able to pull myself out of that black hole called abject poverty was available SOCIAL PROGRAMS that allowed me to go to school, feed my kids etc.. Now I have a little education, moved on up to middle class, (barely) I will never, ever forget where I came from. It's why I try to stay involved. Talking to folks who haven't experienced that kind of poverty is hard, so mostly I don't try. I can say that it's like being invisible, except to others like yourself.
Edit for spelling (again, sigh)
