Does the right wing have a plantation mentality?
(A friend wrote this:)

Why yes they do they want us to be indebted to them for our jobs, for our lives, for our living standards and they want us to owe our souls to their company stores. Think about it I am sure that back then when some of the Plantation owners showed a small amount of compassion toward their slave. They could have labeled themselves as compassionate conservative. The master back then would bring some into their houses but you still eat only the leftovers, yet if you were a slave you felt important and at a higher level than the rest of the master slaves, Why I bet some of the masters slave even defended him and his policy and how well they were treated by the master. But make no mistake about it what ever the master gave you or did for you was only to benefit the masters way of life. Now we seem to be back into that world of the wealthy and the corporate master. When ever you have no middle class that is growing and thriving and only the wealthy and corporations are growing you are back into the plantation mentality. All the laws, an regulations are written in support of the master and not the people. I pray for a charismatic leader of the people to make his/her self known and take back our country from the masters. If it does not happen then it will be only a short matter of time that we will have went the way of all once great countries. Like them we will have rotted from the inside out because of greed and selfishness.

5. Yes, I remember reading an article in the Atlantic (I think)
during the heyday of Newt Gingrich, saying that the ascendancy of Southern Republicans in Congress was the "revenge of the slaveholders."
