"coordination of tsunami relief was better than NO"
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 08:13 AM by Francine Frensky
CNN anchor just said this .

Why is this being bungled so badly???

Raises big question of who is in charge. Two days ago head of HOMELAND SECURITY gave a press conference and said he was in charge. If so, he is an idiot.

in Cuba, Jamaica or anywhere else in the Caribbean. Apparently our Disaster Preparation Agencies are way advanced. What's more if a PM or President was on holiday when this was on the way, his ass would be grass. When Ivan was heading our way last year, our PM was at a meeting elsewhere in the Caribbean - he left immediaetly and he had to fly up to Miami to come back down but he was on TV before that storm hit with every single important head of an agency directing the movement of people from key parts of the coast. Hours before he arrived agencies wer coordinating evacuation fromt eh coast. Buses went in to every village with speakers and told people to leave. Those who didn't want to leave stayed but centres were set up all over the island and relief reached people within 24 hours. Maybe we face these disasters more often than you do but it does seem that we're better prepared.

It's hard to contemplate this catastrophe but it seems that not enough was done to get people out. If they can find 400 plus buses now to move people, where were the buses before the storm hit the coast.

Here's our ODPEM site - http://www.odpem.org.jm/

2. I thought
that the coordination of tsunami relief was far better than this disaster, as well. What a piss-poor administration.

3. They are totally incompetent.
And Bush is probably telling them behind the scenes that there is nothing they can do. So much for compassionate conservatism.

4. Silly me. I had feared we were becoming a third world nation, and
all along we were a fourth world nation.

5. ??? Based on what grounds is he saying this?
I recall stories of villages not being visited by relief for weeks.

8. Lack of Leadership is the ONLY Problem.....
from bush and his cabinet on down, complete and total incompetence. Every time there is a disaster, bush is always flying in the opposite direction of that disaster.
