ACTIVISM UPDATE:
Savage Fired by MSNBC

July 7, 2003

Michael Savage's MSNBC show, The Savage Nation, was cancelled today
because of homophobic remarks made by the host on the July 5 edition of
the show, according to an Associated Press (AP) report. Those
comments--labeling a caller "a sodomite" and telling him to "get AIDS
and
die"-- were the subject of a FAIR action alert earlier today.

MSNBC spokesperson Jeremy Gaines told AP, "His comments were extremely
inappropriate and the decision was an easy one."

Over the past five months, FAIR activists have written more than 2,000
individual letters to MSNBC expressing their concerns about Savage's
record of bigotry and hate, and criticizing the network for hiring a
host
who routinely traffics in slurs while firing host Phil Donahue over his
anti-war views.

Savage can still be heard on some 300 radio stations across the
country.

6. Yeah...they should have asked us DU 'ers.....
Gawd, are they that stupid around BSNBC offices?? Or did they think another screaming maniac flaming right winger would bring them closer to FOX's numbers?

Wonder if they've learned anything from this? Nah,now looking for someone on the right that just slightly less evil than Savage. Shit...they probably give Coulter his slot!!

9. They expected Savage to act civilized
Savage is a puke. MSNBC is a puke entity.

At least MSNBC has a line they wouldn't allow the savage Savage to cross.

10. Bets on how soon he shows up on Fox
Fox has even less scruples than MSNBC so I expect him to just move right in over there. He will be regaled as a hero.

11. wasnt the July 5 rant discussed here at DU
I seem to recall a thread or two about Savage having a "meltdown" ...I wonder if this was the thing that finally got MSNBC to cancel him.

Im sure this was just the last straw and they have been heaing from folks about him for some time now.

so I can imagine the decision was "...an easy one" for MSNBC.

12. Ahhh...
the sweet smell of success!

Not only did Wiener have terrible #'s; his unbelievable arrogant attitude finally did him in. So now people should die because they don't think like he does? Good Lord, you can't get much more pathetic than that.

13. Maybe now we can work on the Paul Revere Society
The group that Savage founded to "save" America.

It tarnishes the name of a man that rode with my I-don't-know-how-many-greats-grand-relative William Dawes.
