NOLA Blogger: Anyone on the streets is in immediate danger of being killed
http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/

Security has become a major concern now, because the NOPD is ineffective and the looters terrorists are roaming the streets. Word is now that they're lighting buildings on fire, but I can't confirm that. Anyway, we have to run guard shifts and patrol and it limits our downtime.

It is a zoo out there though, make no mistake. It's the wild kingdom. It's Lord of the Flies. That doesn't mean there's murder on every street corner. But what it does mean is that the rule of law has collapsed, that there is no order, and that property rights cannot and are not being enforced. Anyone who is on the streets is in immediate danger of being robbed and killed. It's that bad.

Where is the National Guard?

5. Oh, but HOW DARE you judge those that would.....
steal, kill, destroy..... rape.
They are hungry and want to feed their babies your DVDs.

I can't believe that people here find the behavior of those who would kick their already down neighbors..... even remotely acceptable.

Thanks for the report and stay safe!
PLEASE!!!!!!!

6. Heres the difference between Katrina and 9/11
On 9/11 a lot of rich people got killed by a few poor people.

During Katrina a lot of poor people got killed by the neglect of a few powerful rich people.

Where is the National Guard?

Still out avenging those rich people killed on 9/11, in Iraq.

8. Rich people killed on 9/11! Get your head out of your ass, friend.
Tell that to the families of waitresses and dishwashers at Windows on the World or the sectretaries and office help in the brokerage houses and state offices, or the police and firemen that gave their lives to save others.

Some people are so blinded by their politics that they will twist anything to make a cute little point.

12. WTF?! That's one of the stupidest things I've heard.
The hijackers were not 'poor people' and not everyone killed in the WTC was "rich". The hijackers were psychopaths funded by a millionaire.

13. You have a seriously skewed view of 9/11
On 9/11 a few rich people and a lot of ordinary working stiffs were killed by a few middle-class, college-educated radicals. (Were any of the 9/11 attackers actually poor?)

15. I think you're right

these tv images shown over the last few days, only NOW really catching up with the tragedy, show how little we care for the poor and black. On TUESDAY morning they were showing pictures of black people stranded on their roofs...and the media wasn't really too focused on the story, they kept cutting away to pictures of mississipi trees down instead of focusing on the UNFOLDING tradgedy in NOLA...basically this is the same as the 9-11 tragedy, except it is taking place over a week in a larger area, whereas 9-11 was a one day event in a few blocks.

7. "The situation for the NOPD is critical"
Looting: The police are looting. This has been confirmed by several independent sources. Some of the looting might be "legitimate" in as much as that word has any meaning in this context. They have broken into ATMs and safes: confirmed. We have eyewitnesses to this. They have taken dozens of SUVs from dealerships ostensibly for official use. They have also looted gun stores and pawn shops for all the small arms, supposedly to prevent "criminals" from doing so. But who knows their true intentions. We have an inside source in the NOPD who says that command and control is in chaos. He reports that command lapses more than 24 hours between check-ins, and that most of the force are "like deer in the headlights." NOPD already had a reputation for corruption, but I am telling you now that the people we've been talking to say they are not recognizing the NOPD as a legitimate authority anymore, since cops have been seen looting in Walmarts and forcing people out of stores so they could back up SUVs and loot them. Don't shoot the messenger....

10. Baton Rouge broadcaster this morning said that he personally saw
in Baton Rouge yesterday people walking around with guns in their pockets, not trying to hide them. The same has been reported in Denham Springs, another nearby city with a large evacuee poplation. Many of the police from BR and other South LA cities have gone to New Orleans even while their cities are worried that the lawlessness will spread. Damn.

16. If I were there, I'd certainly want a gun in *my* pocket...
and if my house were still standing and I were there, I'd probably want a rifle or shotgun in my hands rather than a piddly handgun...

The scale of this disaster is almost unbelievable. I used to live in Northwest Florida until 2002 and have visited since hurricane Ivan hit, and I thought the aftermath of Ivan was catastrophic...not anymore...
