Don't tell ME that the Wilson/Plame affair will destroy Bush.
If you want evidence of that, just go over to LBN and look at the post counts. Ahnold and Rush trump Wilson/Plame by over two to one, and we're supposed to be the politically enlighted folks.

I smell 1971 all over again.

Traitor-gate should be our focus.
Recall should be secondary.

A fall guy that gets millions in the future for
'protecting' the PNAC cabal.

3. Too Much at once
You have CIA, you have Arnold, you have Rush, the Kay report is supposed to be out today too.

I think it will be both pos and neg. Some details will get overwhelmed, but basically, the top news is all bad for republicans. People will watch the news today and hear nothing but probs for pubbies.

10. It won't 'damage' him with the Bush* faithful...
...and those who will line up to vote for him in 2004. And it certainly won't damage him with the corporate donors and the RWing talking heads that will continue to pimp for him.

15. Who the fuck cares about the Bush* faithful
No one here thinks the Kook-aid drinkers are going to abandon him. It is the swing voters who will be effected.

How many posts are you going to make whining about how this isn't going to effect him?

16. You overestimate how many true Bush faithfuls there are
Oh, don't get me wrong, there's a solid core who would still worship him if he killed babies on national tv. However, there is a decent percentage of people who voted for him in 2000, but did it holding their nose...This will damage him and just MIGHT take him down to just about his rock hard core support, and that is nowhere near 50%...I'd put it at no larger than 40% and probably closer to 35%...I make no predictions, but I do think your being overly pessimistic...People realize how serious this scandal is, they know it's not like a blowjob...

28. Beets, I'll forgive those people if they voted for * once. . .
but I will NOT forgive them if they vote for him again in 2004.
If G*d forbid, he's elected, all bets are off, the gloves are off, and the sky's the limit.

29. He did kill babies on national TV. His approval ratings went up.
there's a solid core who would still worship him if he killed babies on national tv.

He did. Earlier this year. Of course, they were Iraqi babies, so they don't really count </sarcasm>. Then again, the fact that he had his armed forces do the dirty deed matters not a whit. Under the law, if you pay someone to do a hit, you are just as guilty as the man who pulls the trigger.

Think about the bloodlust of the millions who were jonesing for us to go into Iran or Syria or wherever else was convenient so we could kill, kill, kill some more. "True Bush* faithfuls", indeed!

The Plame affair is several days old, and the Rush and Arnold stories just happened last night. Treasongate is not going away. You need to give your fellow DUers a little more credit.

12. Logic and Politics never mix.
I'm just looking at our tabloid like every other one in the country, from the Wash. Times to FOX. The attention span of the nation is focused on things like crotch, drugs and race: if the leakers from Wilson/Plame aren't found wildly screwing each other while smoking crack and wearing KKK regalia, this story will get killed by Asscrack et al by Christmas.

Or don't you remember a certain "election" and SCOTUS decision...?

18. It is ALL bad for Bush
That, and an economy that will be in the toilet shortly (mark my words) means Bush is done. Frankly, at this point I don't care whether this administration dies of a thousand stings or one massive sword thrust. I just want it to die, and that is happening.

IT IS ALL BAD FOR BUSH AND THE CONSERVATIVES!

There's plenty of other scandals out there too.

Besides, Rush the blowhard isn't exactly in a position to detract everyone from the issues right now. He's a liability to Bush.

Against bad odds, in which the Republicans control EVERYTHING, including the media, and we are WINNING. The dam is bursting here, after months of drip, drip, drip. DUers have been right about everything and we were on everything.

22. EXACTLY.
If 1% of what has gone on since November 2000 had been on a CLINTON watch, he'd already have a cell in Leavenworth, and not even one with a view of the golf course.

The Rich and Powerful are the NEO-CONS, and I have yet to see anything trump money.

17. Nobody hopes you're right more than me:
It's just that what happened on my birthday in 2000 (December 12) sort of made me feel like if we don't catch the perps turning tricks on Broadway in drag while snorting coke, it likely isn't going anywhere.

Ken Lay is still walking the streets: in a month he'll be skiing in Aspen.

13. Won't destroy, but will weaken
No matter exactly how this plays out, the structure is weakening.
These people need ironclad indestructable defences (internally and externally) to keep going. They don't function well in adversity.

Bush especially has nothing within him to draw on when things go badly. He looks worse and worse and digs himself deeper every time he opens his mouth.

Slow and steady.

14. I agree completely.
Why does anyone give a shit about Rush Limbaugh...? The Wilson/Plame story is potentially the biggest scandal since Watergate.

It actually disappoints me to see people on this side of the aisle suffering from the same tabloid-style fixation that's gripped the right for so many years.

Wilsom/Plame, Traitorgate, whatever you want to call it- that's a REAL "High Crime and Misdemeanor". Anyone who used that phrase to describe Clinton's blowjob will have one hell of a hard time defending Bush and Co. now.

I certainly hope we don't just let this thing drip away while we're jerking our collective puds over the demise of one media whore, in an ocean of media whores.

19. Good points, however.
Limbaugh probably has more power than Bush does.

His followers are like programmed robots. He is a unifying force for the evil that lurks in human souls. The politics of personal destruction started with the Big Fat Idiot.

So what if it's all Ahnold and Flush?

All the stuff they've done so far show they are hypocritical crooks and loonies. No Biggie.

What the Plame Affair shows is the Bush White House is filled with Traitors. Big Time.

Big Difference.

25. It's just the start of a long string of secrets the CIA will release...
...over the next several months. One revelation by itself is damaging, but multiple revelations are usually enough to finish the job.

Folks, the CIA is playing for keeps, just as they always do when threatened by a sitting president. JFK didn't finish his first term, and Nixon didn't finish his second.

26. Three top stories
arnold, limbaugh, wilson/plame

arnold running a republican governor in an attempt to steal a state from the democrats, he is being discredited. california has 50 million people and is the economic heart of the US (sorry NY but that's the truth). This is an incredibly important story for the democrats and the upcoming election.

limbaugh is the right-wing's single most important propagandist and would have served the administration incredibly well over spinning the wilson/plame affair, he would have been a major factor in the upcoming election and provided a forum for a massive smear campaign for whomever gets the democrat nod, this may discredit him and remove him as a factor in the upcoming election.

Wilson/plame is a story that simply will not go away because there is an actual investigation and this is a clear and obvious breach of the law and of national security

this is a freaking GREAT day for the democrats. Wilson/plame is a longterm issue and the repubs may have just lost a major voice in that fight. and stopping scwarzenegger should be the priority of every single democrat in the country over the next week, the party CANNOT afford to lose california.

27. Nah ...
I wouldn't say it was JUST the Wilson/Plame affair that has destroyed this entire administration. It was a lot of things. Stealing the election, going to war based on lies, total lack of the ability to hide the fact this is a bunch of lawless thugs from even the mainstream right much less anyone else.

We could go on and on and on but it doesn't matter. What goes around comes around and Nobody can do anything to change that fact.

<snip>

In the last 50 years, the only presidents whose approval ratings were unambiguously falling in Gallup surveys as they entered their election year were Gerald R. Ford and George H. W. Bush, the president's father. Both were defeated.

33. What you have to consider is that the leak scandal is not media driven...
The leak scandal is now a criminal investigation. The investigation into the leak is a legal process which will go on regardless of the amount of media coverage the investigation receives.
