Public transportation is not a viable option in our sprawling city so I have to drive.

My grocery budget for the MONTH is 200 dollars should say was

we are going to try to get by on 100 dollars a month.

there are three of us two adults and a 14 year old!

what are you doing different?

2. right now,
using food stocks and going without medicine. If it gets much higher, I'm taking a sleeping bag into the office and staying there, coming home only on the weekends. Luckily, I can walk to get to most everything in town-its the 100 mile commute that is eroding my paycheck.

3. Pardon me for asking.
But what 3rd world country are you from?

$100 a month is less than homeless people live on, where I'm from.

8. not leaving the house
Daughter's bday is this weekend... we are staying in and just being home with her. Going to walk to the grocery store. Not drive the minivan, try and trade it in for something smaller. Cutting our grocery bill down tremendously , there are four of us.. just eat less...

did i mention I am pissed...

Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:19 PM by IanDB1
The "W" stands for, "We have gas for you to siphon."

Oh, and I also drive a Toyota Prius.

My freezer came un-plugged and I had to throw everything in it away
A couple hundred dollars (at least) of food gone to waste.

That pisses me off.

16. Metro Detroit essentially has no public transit ...
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:37 PM by etherealtruth
...so I am carefully planning trips to run errands. There are no more wasted trips, or trips for a gallon of milk ...

The largest difference is that I no longer take "drives"

it's just my 2 youngest children and I at home ... I can't fathom spending only $100 on groceries (and I am creative and eat little or no prepackaged food)

19. Two adults and one 14 yr old and you're going to live on
$100 a month for food?

I think it's probably possible, but not very damn easy.

We are canceling the cable. That's $50 a month freed up. And fortunately we have been socking away money here and there, dribs and drabs, but it helps. I'm thankful for that. We are driving less. Husband has decided to bike to the store, small trips, and use his backpack to hold groceries in.

23. Canned or dried beans, big bags of rice, some bacon for flavor.
That will take you far.

Also, potatoes.

I guess I'll be cutting back on everything... but sheesh, I've been cutting back for three years or so now...

28. Same here. Why work to pay for gas to go to work?
Isn't that pretty useless?

Seriously, think about what you are saying........

You have to get to work to pay for gas to get to work to short your food budget.
