Why aren't people going apeshit over the gas prices?
Yes, another gas thread. But I think this deserves its own thread because I think this is a symptom of something very wrong with our country.

Gas prices just spiked, and no one's really saying anything. People are still going "fill it up", going along, la dee da....

WTF? Can people really afford these prices? Do they not get what's happening? Do they not care? Are they Bush supporters suffering in silence for their great father Bush?

What gives?

12. Hmmm... I bet most SUV buyers based the decision on $2.00 gas
They never expected a big change in prices. After all, we've got two "oilmen" in the White House, and they'll know how to keep prices down! Why Dubya even said so.

5. I think its a status symbol
To the bushbots. OH YEA??? Well I paid THREE FIFTY today to fill up my Hummer. Sort of like a competition. All the stupid gas stories on tv pretty much just have some reporter gleefully reporting the latest gouging. "OMG WE JUST HEARD 3.69 IN BUMFU.. NC"

9. They will. Like someone else said, NO is a bigger concern now.
The right wing fanatics will always rationalize the high prices if one of theirs is in the WH. So, 30% of the population will always defend Bush on this. The other 70% is annoyed in varying stages. It will get load, but it will take a while.

I expect when people have to (try to) heat their homes this winter is when the proverbial shit will hit the fan.

13. well, not all of us can afford *not* to use gas right now.
I have to go to work, and am not really in a position to not drive my econobox. I need to go home to my parents, a six-hour drive away, but since I'm moving furniture and returning with a bike - yes, in my econobox! - driving is the most feasible way to make the trip.

But that doesn't mean I'm not bitching!

In a bit of gallows humor, I've been telling people, "1800 soldiers are dead, so damn it all, I want my cheap gas! They promised!"

14. deep inside they knew this would come - two oilmen in charge of USA
what more would you expect? A pretty little war, sloughing off billions of Cheney's own company; record profits for oil companies; and now, the pres admits that our ability to make and distribute gas is disrupted.

Prices will hit $5 by fall, the drop down to $3.75 for a long time to come.

That's really good. Patch one problem by making a bigger one. More global warming, more hurricanes hwere does it end?
