Did anyone see Gov. Blanco on Larry King last night?
She is pissed that the airports were closed on saturday and that greater efforts weren't made to evacuate people. She said they could have been flying people out through Sunday evening.
She was dipolmatic but I can tell she has some real problems with the way the disaster relief is being managed by some of the federal agencies.
When asked if she wanted * to visit she hemmed and hawed and said, "there's no place to land. Perhaps he could do a flyover."
She probably views a presidential entourage and photo ops as a hindrance right now.
6. flying people out?? The poorest ones are the left-behinders
who would have paid for their tickets and lodging? not the airlines.. they only listen to the government when it's time for THEM to ask for handouts and absolution from blame (9-11)
Like *² would say.. "They're a biddness, tryin' to make money so their stock will rise"..
It's time to admit to ourselves that we have no safety net..no government to look to in an emergency..
It's "every man for himself..throw granny outta the lifeboat"
8. a local news station also covered the price gouging by at least
one hotel, a member of the Quinto chain.
The owner had doubled the price from $99/night to $199 but only for refugees from the hurricane if they were the "wrong kind" of people. She said on air that she was protecting her other guests.
The TV station called the corp headquaters and they were naturally worried about bad PR so they pressured her to drop her rates back to normal.
I need to send the TV station a thank-you note right now.
9. In a disaster like this, "regular guests" should be made to leave
and the hotels nearby "commandeered" (with paid for rooms for the ones who cannot afford them... by FEMA) to house refugees..They should be patriotic and support their country in a time of disaster:)
