Fetid Superdome: Perfect incubator for spread of disease,
With the hot, humid air, the filthy toilets, the overflowing trash, the sweaty unwashed people,--it's the perfect place for and epidemic of something to spread.

1. cnn actually mentioned this ealier-the toilets not flushing, the thrash
buildup and the lack of a/c. but not the conditions for disease but you are right. in addition, they have a lot of wheel chair bound people not able to care for themselves=--like even getting to the bathroom on their own.

2. And they're bringing more people there from the hospital
I don't know what their other options would be, but that seems like a dangerous place for ill, vulnerable people

3. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an outbreak
of cholera or dysentery, I bet a bunch of those "3rd world" diseases will be going around in the Gulf Coast, lets just hope we can get the proper medicine to these people

4. So the roof doesn't retract?
Sorry, I don't understand exactly how it's constructed.

13. WDSU streaming showed video from the air of the Superdome
While the outer layer is gone over half of it, only about 3 small panels were gone that make it open to the outside.

6. We are going to see some bad things unless those people get out of the SD
Mainly diarrheal diseases such as cholera. These diseases spread quickly in situations like this.
And the fact that there isn't anywhere to go to the bathroom will only amplify the spread of diarrheal diseases.
Also you have to be afraid of an outbreak of TB. With this many people--street people and poor people often are carriers of undiagnosed TB.
I just sit here shaking my head at why the CDC and other governmental agencies aren't screaming to get these people out of the superdome ASAP.

8. There's going to be massive outbreaks of all sorts of diseases all over
the affected Gulf Coast. No sanitary provisions, fouled/toxic flood waters, dead bodies not recovered, no fresh drinking water, close confinements...secondary disaster waiting to happen.

10. Rafts or pontoons or sea planes . .
can't these be assembled to exit the thousands in Superdome???

Put the flood water to good use by using these transport solutions.

Where are the creative, imaginative solutions?

Dull minds and passing the buck are what I fear is happening. . .that Superdome is "our black hole of Calcutta" not just our tsunami.

12. Typhus, yellow fever were once endemic to NO.
These conditions could prompt a comeback.
