Think it wasn't bad in NO and Miss.? Think Again!
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 12:34 AM by JCMach1
I was astonished by thread earlier http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4498776&mesg_id=4498776 suggesting the computer models were off and the storm was not so bad.

Well, the damage will be devastating to NO and even more so to areas on the east side of the storm all the way to Mobile.

The media is just now getting in... rescues will take days. There will be hundreds if not thousands dead.

This was worse than Andrew and Hugo put together folks!

1. The model's were off
The damage will not be nearly as bad as it could have been.

I say this as someone who has seen their grandparents, father, brother, sister, cousin, and uncle all lose their houses in the last 48 hours.

Fortunately, their lives are safe.

3. Not Quite the Doomsday, but too damn close
for comfort...

I have a feeling the death toll from this is going to be bad.

6. The problem is.......
....the original doomsday theory had 50,000 people dying, based on an NPR report done a few years ago. I think people had the idea this was going to be something out of "The Day After Tomorrow".

Armegeddon, followed by cautious relief, finished off with harsh reality is how this thing played out.

8. Well, it dropped to category 4 and passed east rather than west
peak winds of 100 instead of 200. 15 foot surge instead of 28. Good fortune rather than bad models.

I really do not want to see if the Super Dome can really handle 200 MPH winds
